Too bad there isn't any official paperwork associated with animal assistants. Anyone can claim that their animal is needed for a medical purpose. There's no universal behavior/education standard, and that certainly sours attitudes for people with genuine needs and well trained dogs.

I wish they would make an official id card . the schools give out cards id cards with your dogs and your photo the dogs Id number and the school . this card has saved me lots of times but I have seen people selling them on e-bay and even worse I have seen the real harnness for sell on there to  the schools try to get them back when thay can but some always slip though

don't hold me to this, but i think there are official standards to which a service dog must be held in order to be considered a proper service animal. i looked them up and posted them on a prior thread

and about got my head blown off by the criticism that was hurled at me!

when i had my stroke in november of 2003, we had a five month old puppy, and his canadian breeder suggested we think about having him trained as a service dog. we went as far as sending for the information, then decided we wanted him to be our baby instead of making him into my arms and legs.

many alleged "service dogs" aren't service dogs at all. most are properly trained service dogs are just that and wear their orange vests proudly and honestly. a miserable few people, however, see their

infirmities (note that i did not say disabilities!) as the perfect chance to take their dogs into every

wal*mart, mall, restaurant, grocery store etc. they pass by.

in order for an animal to be certified as a service dog, you must be able to show that s/he can do __

things (i forget how many) for you that you can no longer do for yourself. unfortunately, there are

sites on the 'net where you can get an "official" orange service vest, a card identifying your dog as a

service dog. unfortunately, business owners, hospitals, doctor's offices, etc. don't know the actual laws, they only think they do. i wish more people would take the time to learn the regs, then our quadraplegic md neighbor and others who must use service animals to have any type of pre-accident and/or disability lifestyle, wouldn't be hassled so often when they are within their legal rights.

My understanding is that the training for a service animal is much more stringent than that for a therapy animal. Locally, in order to get into the therapy animal classes, you have to be able to have the animal unleashed and obedient to voice control/instructions/direction. Well, none of my sweeties are ready for that - the first nearby squirrel would ruin their concentration.

I'm sure the legitimate schools have paperwork, but owners are not required to show proof that the animal is a service dog when asked. So that means anyone can claim it. I checked federal law once when we had a frequent flyer and her sweet but untrained dog showing up.

I saw somebody call an ambulance for a "sore throat" once. It was post-nasal drip, I believe, not even strep throat or anything like that. I've also seen people come in for menstrual cramps, "thick" semen, peeing too much while pregnant, etc.

a patient accidentally closed his zipper with his member hanging. The penile tissue was swelling, some parts of it were already necrotic. The patient said that it occurred 3 days ago, and he was very hesitant to go to the hospital. We just gave him a local anesthetic and removed the zipper, did some debridement, and boy he was grinning after the minor operation.
