What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?

Specialties Emergency Nursing Q/A

And did you have to treat them?

I am just curious. Your stories always seem to either crack me up or shake my head in amazement.

Thanks for sharing ?

From my new gig as ER registration:

18 y/o, chief complaint: was taking a shower and water dripped in my ear. Also, it was raining real bad out when the person left...I was thinking "Please god please don't make her come back here, I might have to run over her foot with my wheelchair LOL"

Oh, I forgot this one...this lady brings in her whole family because they thought they were all allergic to the same brand of toothpaste.  It turns out the "burning in their mouth" was actually the mint flavor...gotta love medicaid LOL

I often have to wonder about the "wedmd syndrome". I started having nausea, a headache, and chest pains earlier this week, and you know, when you go and enter those things into the Webmd website, it always gives you the worst possible determination of what it could be. So I took local public transportation to a downtown street corner, then walked about a half mile to the ED.... I didn't want to bother the squad if it wasn't an emergency.

Well, cardiac enzymes all normal, chest x-ray normal, ekg was normal, and ccta was practically perfect. Then today, I was looking through info on GERD, and OMG, everything I have been dealing with was listed on the page. Guess I'll have to ask family doctor to increase my Omeprezol. Still, sort of embarrassing for me to have freaked like I did.

I want to shame you for doing that when you suspected a heart attack, but... Last Summer I tried to bring the raft in, and lifted a 100lb anchor, but couldn't get it over the side, just up to the edge. I got a sudden sharp head splitting headache, with dizziness and nausea, had to drop the anchor, and sit on the raft for a few minutes, because I didn't think I could swim in. Gradually got better over the next 2 h then when I could finally get off the bed started googling and came upon something called a sentinel bleed. I couldnt think of anyone that would say to just stay home so I went in to the ER, but I drove in (one hour). Stupid, stupid, stupid. CT was normal, but if they talked about me afterwards, I deserve it.
