What do you *LOVE* about nursing?

Published

For all of you out there that love your nursing career, what is it about nursing that you really enjoy? If you could do it all over again, would you choose nursing?

Thanks!

I love knowing that my job is important, and that I can impact and change lives. I am proud of a profession that challenges me, changes me and helps others. I never know what to expect. I love the fact that I am never done learning. If I could do it all over again I definately would.

I love knowing that I can help people get well and give them comfort. I love knowing that I can handle one of thretoughest jobs there is, and do it well.

Thank you for asking this question, and to the posters that have replied,

It is so refreshing to see you all posting such good things on here after seeing the posts from those who have had a rough time! Makes me realize that not all the nursing jobs are with backstabbers, awful managers, and people totally out to ruin your career!! Thank you all~

Basically I love my paycheck...yeah that's about it...I love the paycheck

I love working with a team.

I love the fact that I am only responsible for a patient while I am at work. When I go home, someone else takes over! (This is one of the reasons I didn't go to medical school.)

LOL lol LOL lol! yeah that!

Oddly. I enjoy juggling diverse nursing goals in my head during my shift for my 5 patients and not missing a beat (maybe a run of PVCs now and then)! Love that!

I Love the fact that as a Nurse I can comfort family, and suprising pts with the knowlege of Nursing. I Love teaching pts and Fam. I LOVE knowing more than the MDs....lol.......

"I'm Cooler than a Doctor"....

I love the schedule (3 12's), the money, and the fact that I can get a job anywhere. Nursing jobs are a dime a dozen. I love that after I get a year or so of experience I will be able to do travel nursing, etc. I love that the hospital I work for will pay me to get my BSN and move the unit schedule around to fit my class time.

I also love learning, and I like most of my co-workers. I love the patients that are appreciative and the families that don't annoy the heck out of me.

I completely agree with you! There are lots of posts that make me question whether or not I should become a nurse, but when I see that there are nurses out there that truely love what they do, it's very encouraging.

Thanks everyone! Keep 'em coming!

I love being able to say I'm a nurse, too. I would love it even more if I could say RN...

but, other things I love:

When a child gives you a hug after their visit,

That people trust you and look to you for advice.

I love it when a patient calls and asks specifically for me because they know they can rely on me to get things done.

I love all the different aspects of my job--pediatrics, geriatrics, Ob/gyn, family practice.

I also love the fact that I put time and effort into getting to where I am. It makes my job feel so valuable.

I love explaining things to cildren--why they have to get shots or blood drawn, what a stethoscope does, etc.

I am glad I chose this profession, it has endless possibilities! :)
