What like of supplies will I need for nursing school?

Published

I just go accepted to nursing school back in October. First day of school will be January 2015. I am so excited about school, but one thing that I need to now is what to get for VN school. I do not want to buy a bunch of stuff that I will not use.

Stethoscope and a watch?

I can promise you that posting the same question several times will not increase the likelihood that someone will reply.

Your instructors will more likely than not tell you what you need for the course & in order to be successful.

Some research in the archives on AllNurses might give you an idea of what you'll need.

As for traditional school supplies, you can never go wrong with having enough pens & highlighters.

Get yourself an agenda so that you can organize your assignments & other personal responsibilities outside of school.

You'll more than likely need a watch & stethoscope.

You just need to relax and don't let the pre class jitters get to you.

I assure you that all the information you need will either be provided at orientation or in your syllabus on the first day of class.

I think she was expecting instant responses. People just don't get that we aren't a chat room or an instant message type place.

I am sorry for the multiple post. New to this app and I did not see the post at first. But I only saw it being on this app twice today. Thank u to the ones that respond to my post. Very helpful. God bless ya

They will give you a supply list at orientation. It will probably have the watch, stethoscope, and blood pressure cup, and scrubs on the list.. but make sure you have them books. But wait till after orientation to buy your things because they may give you some supplies in orientation. They gave us minor supples like the pen light and scissors. But each school may give out different things. Just save your money and wait until after orientation.

Lots of Highlighters I think I go thru a highlighter in two days and its dry! a calendar is a must.. your going to become so busy its going to be impossible to remember everything. A calendar will keep you on track with your personal time and assignments. I set reminders in my phone just to make sure I dont miss an assignment and to make sure I'm at clinical on time because the times fluctuate. Today we might go at 6am and next week we may go at 8am. So you need a reminder.

Get some stackable folder organizers for at home, so you can have somewhere to put your papers and folders for school! I also recommend getting a special storage area for your clinical things like your stethoscope, watch, name badge, etc. I have a small Rubbermaid thing that has 3 drawers and I keep all my clinical equipment in there so I don't lose it.

Aside from that, you'll want the obvious things: notebooks, binders, paper, folders, pens, highlighters, index cards, and bigger notecards for when you get into pharmacology. Trust me on this, the big ones are a godsend. Also, maybe some rings to put the cards on. And a ROLLING BAG, not a backpack. You're going to have so damn many books, please save your back and get a bag that rolls with a handle. I use a luggage case for mine!

Some other helpful things might include a planner, a stock supply of healthy snacks and water, and some compression socks for when you start clinicals - they'll help your feet to not feel like they're dying.

Congratulations and good luck! :)

Thank you all for the great ideas. I purchase a rolling backpack and school supplies, but I love the 3 drawer Rubbermaid storage got to pick that up soon as I see one. Thank u truly thankful!
