What are the item(s) you need most for nursing school?

Nursing Students General Students

I have been going through all these posts to find what items are the best things to have for nursing school. The posts are all scattered so I thought I would start a post that will contain all the info for the new incoming students.

I would like to know what I should spend my money on when it comes to study guides, NCLEX review books, NET review books, best nursing shoes (without a logo), stethescope, misc nursing items you have to have, etc. Any new students/senior students/graduate nurses have any info they can share? What were the items you couldn't live without???

Thanks for your input!

The iTouch seems to be replacing the pda. I just decided to invest in one and an app called nurse central which has a on of references.

I have an Android and can NOT stand it. I have also have a palm pilot but lost my loading disk. I went all over town to buy one.... NONE! matter of fact one of the guys had no clue what i was talking about. lol

I personally love my Droid X, I have a pdf copy of my med-surgical book and the screen is just large enough to read while I am doing nothing else. I am currently looking for a good flash card app though....

I just downloaded it, what a great app! So much. Better than fumbling with flash cards!

I have a iTouch. Do you think I would be able to get the med surg book pdf on that? Btw, where did you find that? Do you recommend any other nursing software programs out there? Thank you!

what app allows you to download your textbook in pdf for a droid?

Specializes in None yet.

Okay, I'm a bit behind on the times when it comes to technology... my computer is from 2005! For these apps can you just buy a phone and use the apps without cellphone service? Like buy the apps to download onto the phone but not pay for a monthly bill for service?

If that is possible I might invest in an iphone for school.

Otherwise I think I will upgrade my computer. What would an ideal but affordable laptop for nursing school be?

Instead of an iPhone.. why not get the iPod Touch.. you can download apps as well without having to pay the extra monthly data fees. As in regards to laptops, any new one will do. The new ones are pretty good and fairly inexpensive right now. I got my HP 2 years ago for only $550 and it is still running good. Do not buy Dell... they usually crash right after the 1 year warranty expires. I heard Toshiba's are really good too and you can get them at best buy for around $350.

Do you have to buy the ebook version of the textbooks to read them as PDFs on your phone?

Most textbooks come with ebook versions... others you would have to purchase separate. I like to read them on my laptop. Reading them on the phone or iPods is really small. I was thinking of buying an iPad but why waste my money when I already have an iPod and a laptop.
