As I turned my calendar today to August, a jolt of excitement went through me when I realized "I START NURSING SCHOOL THIS MONTH"!!!! :lol2::D:w00t:Then, a half second later I inwardly groaned, "I start school this month" :uhoh21::sniff:. I realized my summer has come and gone, and the lazy days are over.

So, when you go back to school, what selfish, decadent things are you going to miss. I mean, not the obvious, my family, my kids, etc... the TRULY superficial things that won't be able to done again until December (at the earliest).

For me... I will miss sleeping in, reading non-school books, watching bad TV, trolling this website, and being lazy... just cause I can!

Specializes in Med/Surg, ER, LDRP.

I will miss lazy weekends! :zzzzz

I will also miss being able to procratinate... I am a master at it, and will need to learn quickly (and possibly painfully) that it won't fly in NS.

I can't say I will miss sleep because with 2 small children I already get up early. I will miss being able to just sit back and relax after putting the kids to bed at night. In a couple of weeks that free time will be spent studying.

Having a relatively clean house! I am starting my last level and have learned my house is only really clean (the way I like it) when I'm not in school...of course that has to do with my husband working off and just me and the kids being here.

I just graduated from my ADN program. I would say that the things I missed most were: 1) Reading books (for fun) and 2) Sleeping in. I only had to wake up super early 2 days per week but it was so annoying! The moon was still out when I drove to clinical on those cold, dark mornings. I do NOT miss that at all!

However, I put that as my second choice because having to wake up super early has made it easier for me to wake up early in general. I usually work at 6:30 and 7:30 in the morning but now I am set because I am used to waking up at 5 AM. So, some good came out of it.

By the way, I really think I still had enough time to shop, watch TV, and surf the web. These things do not take long to do. I would study for a chunk of time, go online for 1/2 hour, study, watch a show, etc. TV and the web are actually nice little breaks to re-fuel you. You won't give them up completely - or you will go crazy!

Mindless computer gaming, and naps.

I work full time, goto school full time, am a full time mother and wife and I take care of a fulling functioning farm with livestock. I miss, more than anything, being able to sit at the dinner table to eat supper with my husband and children without having books surrounding myself. And I really miss not having labs until 930 at night MWF.

Edited to add...I also really miss feeling like I'm my own age. At 23 years old I feel like I'm 35.

I'm definitely going to miss reading (for fun)!

I'm also going to miss working normal hours at my job. I'm going to be cramming 36 hours of work into the 3 days I have off from school.

I do believe I'll make time for a nap here and there because: if I don't take a nap the nap takes me :-)

I really am ready to get on with it already.

I'm gonna miss couponing!!!!! I am one of those ladies that drives you NUTS at Walmart! I'm gonna miss having extra hours to clip and save and plan a decent menu for my kids and me. Sounds crazy but that is what I will miss most of all.

Specializes in NICU.

I'm going to miss waking up without an alarm clock and seeing so much of my friends and family. I'm also going to miss unwinding at night with my husband, watching our favorite HBO series.

Specializes in Neuroscience.

Sleep.

I still plan to do the rest when school starts back up. I will still be free reading, watching TV shows, and surfing the web while I study, lol and shop occasionally.

During the first year of nursing school I was so scared to leave my books, I never enjoyed any of the above unless I was on a break. By third semester I started to ease up and fit those things in, and my grades were fine.

No way am I buying what this board usually says, "you won't have any life during Nursing school." That is B.S.

eta: I will also miss not having to stress out over my exam grades. It's so nice to be free of that.

Specializes in Nursing Assistant.

I know it's like nursing school almost makes you bipolar... Especially towards the hubby not meaning too!
