As I turned my calendar today to August, a jolt of excitement went through me when I realized "I START NURSING SCHOOL THIS MONTH"!!!! :lol2::D:w00t:Then, a half second later I inwardly groaned, "I start school this month" :uhoh21::sniff:. I realized my summer has come and gone, and the lazy days are over.

So, when you go back to school, what selfish, decadent things are you going to miss. I mean, not the obvious, my family, my kids, etc... the TRULY superficial things that won't be able to done again until December (at the earliest).

For me... I will miss sleeping in, reading non-school books, watching bad TV, trolling this website, and being lazy... just cause I can!

Being able to drop everything to play with my kids. I'll still be able to do it, but I'll pay for it later (losing sleep, etc).

I think that nursing school is a state of mind. After my first year I realize I do not miss the mind numbing TV that I was watching nightly. I already lived a structured life so it was ok to have a schedule. I think there is a big hype about how difficult nursing school is and then when you get into it you ask yourself, "Is this what everyone was turning into a monster?" Because it is truly a life changing event but not for the bad and the reward at the end is worth all of the hard work and sacrifices you will make. You will have time for free time but you have to make decisions on what is really important that you want to do when you have that time. Nursing school is definately about priorities.

I don't think it is a monster...it is just very time consuming (depending on credit hours/commute).

My school is 1.5 hrs away...that's 3 hrs of driving time, my choice, but def cuts into free time.

I managed to squeeze in all of the above AND have time with my family. However, I have ALWAYS lived off of four or five hours of sleep per night, so it was no big deal to keep it up. I'm one of those people if I get 6 or more hours, I am TIRED. I also hit my GPA goal, in fact I beat it a little bit.

Besides, no WAY was I giving up snuggle time with my son while he's still little, and no WAY was I giving up Game of Thrones. :D (My hubby works for the railroad, so only God truly knows HIS schedule. HA!)

I couldn't pick any of the choices in the poll. I'm going to miss things like going to all my son's practices, a clean house, cooking big meals for the family and alone time with my hubby.

This is me exactly! I have never had a ton of leisure time but I cherish my family time.

I have kids, so sleeping In, watching tv, and leisure reading haven't been on the radar much in oh, a decade or so.

Family time is what I will absolutely miss the most. I'm a stay at home mom, so I've always been the one to be there, and I've dedicated a huge part of my life to the "little things" like being the cook, maid, chauffeur, daycare provider ,and event planner. Letting those things go somewhat has been hard for me and I know it'll only be harder when we go full blast in the fall.

I did pick reading, though, because that is my alone time indulgence, and reading for fun doesn't go hand in hand with school. I only watch tv when I'm actually really busy and am procrastinating, so my tv consumption will probably go up ;)

And I'll be better off doing less shopping.

I will continue working full time (as a paralegal) when I start pm/weekend NS in a few weeks. My husband has a crazy schedule, so I will probably really miss our already-limited time together. In addition to that and sleeping (my answer in the poll), I will miss my sanity, having a clean house, cooking, and eating dinner with my husband -- as opposed to eating in the car while I drive from the office to school. I'm trying not to get discouraged before I even start, but I'm getting really nervous the closer it gets.

I feel exactly the same way. I'm happy because I've been working toward this for a long time, and come hell or high water, I will see it through, but the reality of life's changes are starting to hit me and the nerves are replacing the excitement.:scrying:

I just started getting nervous today. What was I thinking going to nursing school at 42 with a needy husband and child? ;)

I'm going to post again since my days of freedom are dwindling..I will miss my slow relaxed mornings..I will miss not worrying about homework, careplans, and exams...I will miss the sunshine and having a very clean house..I will miss the calm and snuggling with my babies at night instead of always telling them"momma has to study :("
