What are your future nursing plans??

Published

I am getting ready to start my last semester of nursing school and it has me wondering where I want to end up and where everyone in my class will end up! So what area do you guys want to end up in after school??? Did it change from what you thought you wanted when you started or have you found your niche in nursing school?

For me, It's OB and its always been that way! I'll probably start out on a medsurg floor and hopefully transition quickly.

Specializes in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Flight.

ER/Trauma----> to Flight! up up and away! :)

I feel so at home in the ER...i cant wait to finally work in one as an RN! :)

Specializes in None yet.

To make a difference in the world and live conscientiously while contributing to the zeitgeist of the facility I work at and providing my children with a good role model.

Oh wait.. you meant specialty umm... I want to experience a few different specialties before I continue on to a Masters. I thrive off of chaos and working under pressure so I think I would like to try emergency or trauma and then maybe work with pediatric populations. But another side of me just wants to be a midwife at a free standing birth center.

I spent a day in the OR and a few in NICU and I loved them both. ER was interesting and definitely very hands-on but soooo busy! Ultimately I would like to work in corrections at one of the facilities close by.

If the pay was better though it was always my dream to be an aesthetic nurse.

Specializes in LTC.

I'm also going into my last semester this fall. I hope to specialize in OB, Land D, Peds, or NICU. I know I may have to do a year of medsurg first as well. Eventually I want to obtain my BSN then possibly masters and teach.

I also would not mind being a birth educator or lactation consultant.

I'm more certain of where I DON'T want to be, rather than where I do want to be. I know I don't want to do burns or L&D. No way, no how... Not crazy about the prospect of LTC, but will consider it if it's my only option.

OR does interest me the most, but I'm not closing myself off to other options. I'm currently being considered for a PCT position in the Surgical Oncology Unit at a major teaching hospital. I saw the floor - there's lots to learn. The nurse I interviewed with told me she thought she would only stay on that floor for a year or two then move on to ICU, but liked it so much that she doesn't want to do anything else!

I am just starting NS in the fall and currently work in Peds as a PCA and loooove it. My plans are Peds (or maybe Land D). I am keeping an open mind.

I have a strong interest in psych, but lately I've been more and more leaning toward PACU. I spent a little time there last semester and loved it. I would never want to work in L&D after the few days I spent there in clinical. LTC isn't my first choice either.

Specializes in Emergency/Cath Lab.

TNCC, ACLS, PALS, EMT-Paramedic, CEN. All that and then eventually get into flight on a rotor, not fixed wing if possible.

If that doesnt happen, enlist with the AF and hopefully get deployed.

Three years ago I had dreams of CRNA. Now I just dream of passing NCLEX and obtaining gainful employment ;-). The ER is an area that I would like or some type of ICU perhaps.

Emerg is my near goal, but long term I want to get involved with infection control. I currently have microbiology experience and LOVE my little 'bugs'. I start in 24 days whoop, whoop!!

The more chaotic and stressful the more I thrive!

But hey, the sky's the limit, right?;)

I thought I wanted to work ER/ Trauma but now I really don't know what I want to do. I'm entering my last semester and my focus now is just completing and passing boards.

I'll be starting my second year as a part-time LPN student the second week of September. My hope is that after completing the LPN program I'll be able to bridge over into an RN program at one of the local community colleges, provided that I pass the NCLEX-LPN and get licensed.

Last semester I did my clinicals at a nursing home. In doing so, I found that I loved working with the older population, however I'm leaning towards a career in pediatrics or oncology nursing. I'll see what this year brings in terms of clinical settings and hopefully decide for sure from there.
