Hey,

One time, I got home, emptied my pockets, and found a sealed dilaudid in my pocket...

I had pulled it for a patient but then the doc wrote a discharge order so I gave her something PO instead. Put it in my pocket because there were not any nurses around to return it to the Pyxis with me.

When I found it, I freaked out and drove back to the hospital hyperventilating (only 0.6 miles from where I live, thank God) and returned it pronto!

Now, I ALWAYS empty my pockets before leaving the floor.

Also, I try not to put narcotics in my pockets but sometimes there is literally no one around for 10+ minutes and I don't have time to stand around waiting for someone to appear. I don't want to set it down somewhere because I'm worried I'll loose it or someone might take it.

A coworker tapes meds that need to be wasted to her lapel as a big reminder to

to waste them. She works overnight so no one really notices her "pieces of flare".

One time I was home stripping my scrubs off and I found several unlabeled blood vials with blood in them. Good thing they didn't make it to the laundry :-P

Great idea..but what does she use to remind her to look at her lapel in the morning???;)

Vocera, PCA keys, random meds that pts refused/ couldnt be given due to parameters (colace, tylenol, lasix, BP meds etc), NS flushes, empty vials of medication, telemetry strips, butterfly needles/ IV catheters (if i only bring one into the room i am guaranteed to miss!), random labels, of course a handful of alcohol wipes, more pens than i showed up with, pts eye drops.

I tend to use my pockets as a junk drawer! I go into the storeroom/drug room after I hand the keys and charge phone over! Accidently took a microlax, lube and haliperidol home one day. Caused my nurse housemate to look at me strangly when I pulled them out!

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one with lube in their pockets!! I know that has caused more than a few strange looks when I empty my pockets at the end of the day ;)

Blue caps for IV tubing.

Kelly forceps with roll of micropore tape on end is clipped to scrubs.

2 bandage scissors

Tracer tag I forgot to turn in at end of day.

One of my friends at clinical had ice in her pockets and was wondering why she was dripping all day :)

Was it cold to her?
