What Exciting Thing is Your Management Doing For 'Nurses Week'???

Nurses General Nursing

Just wanted to check in with my peers to see what management has in store for you for nurses week.:balloons: I'm sure they're going all out, right? They'd never come up with anything stupid, that insults your intelligence and good taste, correct???:p I'm sure, whatever they do will be well worth all the hard work you all put in throughout the year!!!:biggringi

I work in a Catholic LTC facility, & yesterday one of the sisters said Happy nurses day.....I didn't even realize it was here already. Apparently, next week is older americans week, we're getting a meal. That's it. (And they wonder why people are leaving in droves because of the fact that the only recognition we get is when we get reamed a new butt hole for something we did or didn't do!) How about a "thank you for all your hard work?" LOLOL Yeah, right.

so far i got a hand-written note from the president of our professional nurses service organization, thanking me for all i do; there was a plant sale near the cafeteria to benefit the nurses service org; over the weekend (when i am not working) there are food goodies and such; next week we have a free lunch voucher...and i think there are some businesses around town that are giving 10% discounts to nurses if we have our name badge from work. not bad. :)

oh yeah, well there was this dinner thing. but of course...being a noc worker, i couldn't go cuz it was right in the middle of my sleep time.

same here, almost, except it's a barbeque - didn't really pay any attention to the date when i realized the time is 11 am to 2 pm. :angryfire

Let's see....there is an ice cream social, and a late morning breakfast, and a hot dog feed, random chair massages. However, also being a noc worker, I don't count so I get nothing (unless you count the brand new pen I got in my mailbox). I mean, everyone knows us noc workers just tuck patients into bed so the hospital can begin "real work" again in the morning. ha!

So, if you were in charge of making the decision, what would you do for nurses this week?

let's see, the rehab facility i work in is attached to LTC, and instead of nurses week, they are celebrating "nursing home week". every day is different activities for all the departments, admin, social services, dietary, etc. not one thing for nurses. oh, and they have asked the nurses to start donating for CNA week in june.

happy nurses week!!!

Our hospital gave us beach towels, insulated mugs, free food and many signs up around the facility thanking us for what we do. For me, I would rather have the thank you signs (if sincere) than any monetary gift.

Well, we get our recognition pins during this week. (5 years, 10 years, etc...) The DON and assistant DONs open their offices for cake, coffee, Nurse-of-the-year presentations,( one RN and one LPN from each unit ), a slide show of photos of us. They also have ballots in each office that we fill out to win prizes. They place "stars" with our names on them congratulating us on different things, like low sick time, professionalism etc... Then one evening, we have a BIG supper at a banquet room with live entertainment, more presentations, plus local bussinesses donate items as prizes. Prizes range from a certificate for a free pizza to a day at a spa. Then each unit will have their own activities. Actually, it's pretty nice. The ones who have to work during the supper are given corsages.

To start with it is called pt services week. Monday bagels $ donuts oh!! so healthy. Tuesday pizza my bet it will be generic. Wednesday popcorn & cotton candy my health is getting beter already. Thursday a mystery gift I belive its a t shirt which I can use to polish my Harley. Friday I'm soo excited I cant remember but I blieve we have random drawings thru out the week. Of course since it is Pt services week any one who enters a Pts room will be eligble for the drawings. I'm so ecited I hope I did not forget any other planned activites. :balloons:

I nominated my entire CNA crew for a "Pat on the back" award. I know it's not much, but it's all they'll let me do. They're a great crew to work with, and any nurse woth his/her salt will tell you that any nurse is only as good as their crew.

The hospital is doing "hospital week" celebration. Usual cookout, etc., during daytime hours. My regular job isn't really doing anything extra special but (and I swear on a stack of Bibles this is true) we are treated so great the rest of the year, every week is nurses week in my mind. :)

I don't need a special recognition week if all it is is to try and make up for treating me crappy the rest of the year, which is the impression I get of how it is used at most places, and a poor effort at that.

Well, I have been doing this staff nursing gig twenty years this summer,

so I feel I can say this: Stop Whinning!........IF we nurses want to be treated like Professionals......then we must start sounding like Professionals.

IF you were given anything in appreciation of National Nurses week then except it for what it is, Little or Big who cares? Are you going to stop being a nurse because you don't like your token of appreciation?.....are you going to leave your place of employment because of your token of appreciation?

....I refuse to accept your negative attitudes, take the gift or refuse it........just don't whine!......I received a $10.00 Simon card...it is $10.00 more than I had the day before they handed it to me, period. :twocents: It is almost Mother's Day are you going to whine about that too?

Listen, We are more than just professisonal workhorses that can be replaced at a moment's notice, and dumped on whenever eveybody feels like it. It is REALLY condescending to have to be upbraided by "One of our own." Stick around longer and read some more posts. You'll begin to see that we are HUMAN too. Peace out. :stone
