Where in the hospital is there likely to be a higher/highest concentration of male nurses? I prefer working with men from my experiences in school. (BTW: I am female)

From what I've seen there tends to be higher concentrations of male nurses in ER, ICU, and OR

Its not med/surge where I am, thats for sure. lol
Had a pt. making assumptions about my sexual preference once. He made some comment, I forget what, and I realized he thought I was gay. I usually dont even acknowledge this, I dont care what they think. But I did point out that I wasnt this time.
He followed by saying "If you were in the ER or ICU or something, I wouldnt have thought that. But here on this floor, I figured you were."
Oh my.

Funny, in my Med/Surg we have a LOT of male nurses. ER/ICU/OR has the most male nurses. Just want to add that I find male nurses to be the best to work with. They are non catty, laid back, go with the flow, relaxed. But women - eeeeeeeesh.

BTW, there are plenty of men who are just as underhanded, conniving, and evil as any woman I've ever known.

I agree with you 100%. Male nurses are laid back, they keep to themselves, they do their jobs, and they don't get all emotional and cliquey. They're more pleasant to work with. Don't get me started on female nurses! We need MORE male nurses!

I love working with the guys at night (I'm in the ICU), and when I worked in the ER, we had a lot of men there too.

I would agree- ED, OR and critical care..... I have worked with many wonderful PICU male nurses too, although the unit where I work now only has a total of 3.... WE NEED MORE
