What departments have high amounts of men?

Published

Where in the hospital is there likely to be a higher/highest concentration of male nurses? I prefer working with men from my experiences in school. (BTW: I am female)

ER. One of the reasons I wanted to work in the ER was because of this fact. I enjoy working with men way more than I do with women. I am a woman.

It a riot so many of you say you'd rather work with men.

Friends outside the medical field ALWAYS say to me:

"Michael, you lucky dog. Surrounded by all those women at work. I'd work for free for that".

I'm like..........OK, not for long you wouldnt. If only you knew the truth about it.

I agree ICU, ER and OR. There's a lot of male nurses on my unit because we're a "trauma" unit and they are attracted by the word "trauma" and most of our patients are men.

i absolutely love working with male nurses. no drama for the most part.

my poor bf comes home sometimes (he is the only male nurse on his unit at nite) and says "god, i think i have my period or something. too much estrogen!"

Trauma nursing is the only thing I refuse to do. Well, that and Nursing Home nursing, but for different reasons.

I work on the med surg trauma unit, so it's not bad. The patient population is one that doesn't tend to give good Press Gainey scores though.

I would have to agree with you on that! i feel the same way many times, but i know which ones to avoid. Oh and yes...ER, ICU, OR, and Cath Lab are the units most of the guys work on.

My Surgery/ Trauma unit is about 1/5th male. The flight nurses are often men too.

Your unit has one fifth of a male? Whoa, how does he do the work? What 4/5 of him is gone? If its his hands, how does he pass meds?
