What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

I do not know to whom this is addressed, but at least on this forum, I have not seen a "uniform sentiment". I can't think that anyone in this group has said that voting republican makes you an election denier. Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, Evan McMullin, Jaime Herrera Butler, Dan Newhouse, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Brad Rathensburger, Rusty Bowers, Brian Kemp and Dan Crenshaw are not election deniers.

No no. I was referring to left news sources and some democrat politicians and as another poster noted, apparently Biden himself.

Not from the members on here. There seems to be some repetitive posting about Republicas and the threat to democracy on these forums, the little I've read on here, these threads are vast!

My post was not in reference to people here. My apologies for not being clear.

I'm sure rumors of pedophiles drinking the blood of children made a huge difference at the polls.  How many votes were changed on that info, do you believe?

Meanwhile, those in office and those running lie to us constantly.

Have you ever seen a political ad that isn't full of lies and half-truths?

Our president the other day, on national TV, used the Pelosi attack to say if you're against that, you need to vote for Democrats.  Disgusting and dispicable.

As far as spreading false information, we're our own worst enemy.

"We are our own worst enemy"

Yes. As the reporting points out, conservative Americans have a tendency to believe the right wing propaganda, designed by foreign operatives to foster animus and division between Americans and to diminish trust in our institutions, and then to spread it themselves.  Trump spreads these type lies all the time.  Trump influenced politicians across the country spread these destabilizing lies all of the time.  That's what the ongoing conservative insistence that our elections are suffering from liberal fraud actually is...a destabilizing lie.  The Republicans who aren't actively telling lies about elections to gain conservative votes are actively ignoring those lies to keep conservative votes.  Which Republican politicians do you trust then... the ones who are actively lying about elections or the ones passively lying about elections?

I have occasionally seen this, and agree with your assessment.  Not having read the regulations addressing this I think it possible that he, based on his wording, that he might be complying with the letter of the law, but definitely not complying with the spirit of the law.

Magical thinking abounds in the legal defense of author and promoter of "The Green Bay Sweep". In case you are unaware, that plan is an unconstitutional scheme to undermine our democracy forwarded by Trump's advisor, to assist him in retaining lost power.

Navarro must share that Trumpian notion that he is not accountable to our laws.

Very odd.  Let's see the bodycam footage.

"NBC News caused a firestorm on social media after it retracted its explosive reporting on last week's attack of Paul Pelosi.

On Friday's installment of "Today," NBC News national correspondent Miguel Almaguer went viral for stunning revelations of what apparently transpired when police arrived to Pelosi's San Francisco home.

"Sources familiar with what unfolded in the Pelosi residence now revealing when officers responded to the 'high priority call,' they were seemingly unaware they've been called to the home of the Speaker of the House," Almaguer told viewers. "After a 'knock and announce,' the front door was opened by Mr. Pelosi. The 82-year-old did not immediately declare an emergency or tried to leave his home but instead began walking several feet back into the foyer toward the assailant and away from police. It's unclear if the 82-year-old was already injured or what his mental state was, say sources."

Doubtful we'll hear much until after Election Day.

"There are still many questions to be answered. The San Francisco PD has not said publicly that anything in the report was inaccurate. Did they tell NBC there was? Was Pelosi's office involved in the decision to "expire" the video? Who made the call to run it in the first place, and who made the call internally to remove it without specific explanation? Would they issue an on-air or online correction and explanation? These are all questions I asked NBC multiple times, and was not given an answer (and my NBC sources weren't talking either)."

Just my opinion here, but I think the "foreign opporatives" idea is a stretch and sounds more conspiracy than actual reality.

I find huge amounts of propaganda in everything we consume so it's hard to tell what true, what's not, and what's partial true etc.

The lies you mention, are you referring to the lie that the election was stolen? Or does questioning/regulating an election to insure its integrity include denying an election? All powerful forms of government need to be regulated and put under scrutiny to prevent corruption. Just like nurses. The BON regulates, questions  and to a point, scrutinize the profession to insure nurses are not abusing their power.

Sometimes not giving something attention like "the election was stolen" serves a greater purpose. And some politicians may feel that there are more important issues to focus on than the "election was stolen"  there for do not actively add to the ridiculousness of the sentiment? Perhaps they want to address factors effecting their voters like gas prices and crime instead of focusing the election was stolen and Jan.6. It wasn't stolen  so why continue talking about it? Questioning results and the process has been standard in almost every election. Insuring integrity in elections is necessary. If an institution like a democracy and its process isn't put under any scrutiny,  then that leaves open an oportunity for corruption. However, I do not believe insuring election integrity isvthe same as election denying. At the end of the day, people can and will believe what they want.

I just find is unsettling that Biden and other Democrats as well as left news sources suggest voting for republican makes the voters implicit of being election deniers and voting republican in a democratic election makes them against our democracy? LOL

I guess we will see this week what's important to voters. However, if Republicans win, that does not make the voters implicit of anything nefarious, just good ol' voting for the party that best aligns with what's important in their lives. The side that loses is accountable for their loss.

I'm not a big fan of the GOP, and generally vote Independent/split ticket, but I really, REALLY admire Liz Cheney for speaking up about tRump and gang. If she was on the ticket here, I would've voted for her because of that.

I think that by not releasing the body cams and news sources changing their story or removing some pieces only fuels the speculation. Not to mention trust of the voters. This person who asalted Mr. Pelosi has had bail revoked but so many violent offenders are let out, sometimes without paying any bail.

I think some people may interpret that as a double standard. Especially people who have had family members hurt by people that were let out. Everyone should be safe from repeate offenders including everyday people. Sends a message that some are more important than others.

I agree that much more info will be released after the election. Seems to be the type of selective reporting that happens these days.

Really? How many? How often are violent offenders released without bail?

I know there is a movement to release nonviolent offenders, such as for unpaid traffic tickets, minor drug offenses, burglary.

Technically speaking, maybe not many.

But, there are many leftist groups whose mission it is to raise money to pay bail for both nonviolent and violent offenders.

Remember in 2020 when our current VP was encouraging people to donate to one in Minnesota?
