What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Trump Embraces Conspiracy Theories He Only Winked at Before https://nyti.ms/3ekYatz

But, as his legal exposure intensifies over his handling of government documents, the former president this week crossed over to a more direct embrace of claims batted around the dark corners on the internet. His winks and nods to the far right became enthusiastic endorsements, and his flirtations with convoluted conspiratorial ideas became more overt.

He shared a flurry of 61 posts written by Truth Social users, many of whom had ties to QAnon, an online conspiracy movement aligned with the former president. One post included “the storm,” which QAnon followers use to describe the day when the movement’s enemies will be violently punished.

The posts have alarmed disinformation experts, who fear that Mr. Trump’s incendiary remarks could further inflame political tensions. After the Mar-a-Lago search, an armed man tried to enter an F.B.I. office and was killed by the police.

Tens of millions of Americans believe that the use of force would be justified to restore Mr. Trump to the White House, said Robert Pape, a professor of political science at the University of Chicago, citing a poll conducted last year.

“You can see how easy it’s going to be for Trump to trigger a lot of these incendiary responses with incendiary posts himself,” Mr. Pape said.

Tweety posted photos of sand-art in Fla, but you're right, none of them resembled Trump.

We've been following this tragic situation. Holy moly.

A couple of days ago BBC was saying over 33 million people were affected by the flooding in Pakistan.  Devastating situation.

Apparently warm ocean waters cause the atmosphere to hold huge amounts of water causing very large amounts of rain in some areas at once, like we saw in Dallas recently.

Meanwhile there's drought elsewhere.  Apparently a drought in the mustard seed growing area of Canada is causing a shortage in France.  Too bad because I like Dijon mustard myself and my German half likes German mustards.

The coronavirus exacerbated issues that were already driving health care workers out of their professions, Landhuis said. “A nursing shortage was on the horizon before the pandemic,” he said.

According to this year’s Nursing Solutions staffing report, nurses are exiting the bedside at “an alarming rate” because of rising patient ratios, and their own fatigue and burnout. The average hospital has turned over 100.5% of its workforce in the past five years, according to the report, and the annual turnover rate has now hit 25.9%, exceeding every previous survey.

“Each patient added to a hospital nurse’s workload is associated with a 7%-12% increase in hospital mortality,” said Linda Aiken, founding director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research.

Nurses across the country told NBC News that they chose the profession because they cared about patient safety and wanted to be at the bedside in the first line of care.

“People say it’s burnout but it’s not,” Esmond said about why nurses are quitting. “It’s the moral injury of watching patients not being taken care of on a day-to-day basis. You just can’t take it anymore.”

Hospitals may have to close beds if they don't have nurses to provide the care.

There's a Tik Tok going around from a comedian or a speaker telling the audience that nurses kill people.  We don't but a hospital is a dangerous place to be.  The narrative is becoming that its the nurse's fault.

This bit of dangerous rhetoric doesn't really surprise you in today's world, right?

Not at all.  Once trusted institutions like doctors, nurses, police, and democracy are no longer trusted.

The fellow was suffering from a mental health crisis and was suicidal.  Nothing to be gained by releasing his name.

That's not an accident.

Even now, right wing authoritarians are harping on issues like inflation and immigration to forward candidates and thinking dangerous to our republic.  Just like they have in the past.
