What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Fringes have always existed in this country, but this one worries me in that they have an ear of a former President with a huge following.

Yes. This is Trump's political movement that knows or cares little about governance while caring deeply about power... it's very very dangerous... as are all political activities that are based upon lies and corruption and pursuit of power. Many of us learned that in history classes and subsequent reading or study.

This is long but worth a listen to gain a better understanding of what is growing within the GOP party of grievances.

I heard you should always have 5000 cash on hand but I’d never say this to anyone close to me. I watch the news and ID channel.

Wait you have gold? LOL.. I don’t know if I’d bury anything in the backyard. LOL

There's a segment of us (Americans) who keep gold and other precious metals and gems as a portion of our savings. I don't bury mine in the yard.

I do believe Trumpism will outlast Trump. While I do believe he is a master manipulator.  The followers’ drive/hate/unhappiness, call it whatever, has taken over their ability to be rational, to be great thinkers,  to have compassion and even to love.

I have to give this a good listen when I get back home.

One of my relatives just told me about $10,000 cash they have in a fireproof safe and let me know where the key was.  It's for an emergencies or for me to have access to cash to make arrangements when they die.  Weird.

I used to put $20 in books in my private library and had hundreds of dollars stashed away for safe keeping but decided that was foolish.   Now I wonder.

It's not foolish to wonder what the ultimate fallout will include when authoritarians take control of our republic with the intent to maintain power and grow their personal wealth.

I hear you Tweety and totally agree with you 1000 percent.

but know this. There is a difference between religion and living a Christ like life.  He had compassion for ALL!

Yeah I've gotten the "hate the sin but love the sinner" BS my whole life.  I honestly don't care, just keep your laws off my body, and treat me with equality and means equality in healthcare and marriage even if that is against your religion because this is a democracy not a theocracy.

I do generally feel free so don't get me wrong, I don't think my rights are being trampled on.  America has come a long way.  When I was born people were being fired from jobs, taken to mental institutions and even arrested for sodomy.  Things are so much better.

I was fired from a job in the early 80's for "not being manly enough".  Clearly that won't happen today.

I just am concerned that in the guise of "religious freedom" homophobia is making a comeback after we've come so far.

Republicans a few years ago gave up the fight against gay marriage and surrendered to the public tide of support for gay marriage, and I'm hoping enough republicans can get behind a bill to stop the Supreme Court from ending it.  There's just that nasty right wing base to deal with and they need those votes.

I hope not.  It seems they have their little prickly fingers in everything and throwing everything up against the wall.

Funny, I was fired from a job for not being mature enough because I didn't have children or responsibilities.  And this wasn'the 80s.  The official firing was because they said I had too many friends visiting me, I was an insubordinate.  Sounds Spongbobish to me.. Anyway, I had told my friends to stop visiting me, they just didn't listen.  I can laugh about it now but at the time, I was shocked and cried.

The judge assigned to review the documents seized from Mar-a-Lago pushed back against attorneys for Donald Trump on Tuesday as they dance around whether the former president ever declassified the documents in his home.

Trump’s attorneys rebuffed a request from Judge Raymond Dearie, one of Trump’s candidates chosen to serve as the special master in the case, in a Monday filing that sought more details about the former president’s claims around declassification.

You didn't say what you thought about this hearing and the Trump response.  I think that they are only looking to delay this process.

When Ms. Cannon, a Trump appointed judge, selected Mr. Dearie, another Trump appointed judge, special master, some on the left, including here, were convinced the fix was in.  Now it seems, at least as far as the Mr. Dearie is concerned, the fix might not be in.  Granted, t remains to be seen whether Mr. Dearie is just posturing.

Of course they are, as would any good lawyer if he or she thought it in their client's best interest.  Ultimately they are going to do everything the can to have the case dismissed.  Again, as would any good lawyer

I don't recall reading that opinion about Dearie here. I'll review.

It's just odd that the only defense seems to be delay.  They seemed reluctant to claim that the documents were unclassified and the property of Trump.

I believe Judge Dearie was appointed by Ronald Regan, not Trump. All the left-wing commentary I’ve seen has been that he is conservative, highly respected “no nonsense” judge who can be depended on to follow the law.

Dearie was one of the two people suggested by trump’s team to be special master. The consensus is that the team thought he would favor them because he is conservative and has been burned by the DOJ in the past (he signed a search warrant that turned out to be defective). DOJ had no objection to Dearie as special master in this case and so Cannon appointed him.

Love the legal ju-jitsu happening in this case!
