What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

You used quotation marks. Who or what were you quoting?

Do you have another source for this info? I am blocked by a pay wall. Why would the Department of Energy be the authority of the start of a global pandemic?

No I didn't read the second link.  Just missed seeing it.  Your quote didn"t say that the funding had actually passed.  But when I looked at the Omnibus Bill section on border patrol, I realized that we were talking about Omnibus funding.  My bad.  Also, dogs absolutely rule.

The Energy Department isn't.  It has  some of the  scientists that advised the multiple US investigation agencies working on this. They where just one of the investigating agencies.  They simply changed their opinion from a no confidence vote to a low confidence vote.  It doesn't really change anything since opinions seem to be pretty evenly split.  Must have been a slow news day.

Who called it a "total conspiracy theory"?

As far as I know it's always been a suspicion and area of inquiry.

Of course, to simply say Republicans don't want to fund CBP isn't accurate, is it?

From the article linked to in your post:

"Congressman Troy Nehls (R-TX-22) homed in on a portion of the bill that prohibits the use of funds set aside for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) "to acquire, maintain, or extend border security technology and capabilities, except for technology and capabilities to improve Border Patrol processing.”

The bill would grant CBP an additional $1.6 billion for "border management requirements" and allocate $340 million for Immigration and Customs Enforcement for "non-detention border management requirements.”

I stated my opinion.  I believe that republicans find immigration and the border to be big issues for fund raising and campaigning within the voting base. The status quo works for them. Any way they can slow or muddy or diminish legislative change they do, in my opinion.

In this instance I believe that Rep Nehls is suggesting that CBP should be spending their funds doing what ICE is responsible for; nondention monitoring of noncitizens. That's not a solution to a problem, that's creating confusion, in my opinion. I saw similar things during the recent House hearing on immigration. Some members asked questions of Border Patrol that were outside of BP's purview. The commentary from the republican members themselves was declaratory, almost as if they were testifying and not the witnesses, and some of it was very misleading, IMHO.

No, I don't think it's "simple" but that is the end effect much of the time.

Please answer my question.  Who said that it was a total conspiracy theory?  Why do you believe that?

Do I really need to paste the other dozen articles.  You know darn good and well it was called a conspiracy theory and people who claimed called xenophobes.
