What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

You know about satellites, right? Should we them take out, too?
I am sure the President consulted with the military, including actual rocket scientists, about the safest way to proceed.

The satellites are not in US space like the balloon is. The Chinese are not our friends. And yes I am sure that Biden consulted "rocket scientists" but for some reason they thought it is OK for the Chinese to stroll over our Military bases and Nuclear facilities. They had a chance to down it over water (the safest way) but choose not to. So meanwhile the Chinese continue to hover over and spy on whatever they want, and/or they could have some other nefarious ulterior motive.

No that is not true. Below is a list of concerns with in the course. It says nothing about making "white parents and kids uncomfortable ".  Is this the goal? To make "white kid and their parents" feel bad about what people did that happen to look like them? Some sort of punishment?

Any lesson that uses race to assign oppressed and oppressor, privilege and victim is not about teaching history. And is abhorrent to teach young children.

Not to mention the overt fact that these things have noting to do with African history and more to do with current political agenda. So the name is misleading from the onset.

Children should be taught facts void of political ideology. Yes, even the uncomfortable aspects. I'm sure you wouldn't find many "white patents and kids" who are anything but horrified about that history.

It may not be a check list of CRT but it most definitely contains CRT ideas and the people of Florida have determined that they are not in line with this ideology. This is why DeSantis was elected.

It violates the law of the state, thus its removal. This is not censorship.

I am not being led into the idea that CRT is a problem in grades 1 through 12.  No one has shown me any evidence that is in a teaching curriculum.   It's a THEORY..it could be as reliable as the creation story I. Genesis.  It's just the far right trying to make chicken salad out of chicken s!*t..a made up problem.  And no it's not censorship if DT wants to drop News Max.  Why would Bloomingdale's want to stock an item that q person wants tobiy in a year? Should they be forced to sell a dress made of feces because there is a crazy person can't find it anywhere else.  Pay them enough money for making feces couture and it will soon be hanging from the trees.  Just good luck finding someone who wants to wear the dress!  This is the predicant of News Max because just a spin of the dial and a person could easily buy a dress made of slightly spoiled diapers (Fox).

OK if you say so

Now we have a second Chinese balloon hovering over Latin America. Should be obvious to the "rocket scientists" that something sinister is happening. Will be waiting to see what they do...

"tells TIME that spy balloons have some operational advantages. For example, balloons can weather extreme conditions, he says, and are less expensive to deploy and operate compared to satellites. Chinese Academy of Science scholars found in 2020 that, despite harsh environments at more than 68,000 feet above ground, "the high-altitude balloon has long endurance time, which can achieve sustained and wider coverage for regional observation and detection.”

"It is harder to be spotted by radar as well, given the fact that they're simpler in terms of technology,” Char adds. U.S. officials admitted the balloon flying over North America this week was first spotted by civilians on a plane.

High-altitude balloons can also be "trucks for any number of platforms, whether it be communication and data link nodes, ISR, tracking air and missile threats — and without the predictable orbits of satellites,” Tom Karako, senior fellow for the International Security Program and director of the Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told Politico.

"And though the technology is old, says Bec Shrimpton, director at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, balloons can complement surveillance technology in orbit, while they can be built and deployed at a fraction of the cost. According to a 2020 analysis in defense publication Armada International, the development, launch, operation, and insurance of a single satellite can cost up to $300 million.

Another potential edge for balloons, Shrimpton tells TIME, is how unlikely defense officials may have been prepared for it to be used, especially by China. "It's probably better because it's unexpected,” she says. "It's not that we haven't seen this before, but we are expecting far more from Chinese surveillance efforts.”

Teaching CRT doesn't require the outline and course breakdown.

CRT ideology can be intergected into almost anything without teaching the actual course.

So is CRT being taught k to 12 in schools? The actual same class as in post secondary? No.

However ideology can be taught without following something in its entirety.  And it is.

College Board's revised AP African American studies course draws new criticism

Axios today:  Here are some key cuts from the AP African American Studies curriculum

Quote

Here are some of the biggest differences between a 2022 draft of the curriculum obtained by the Miami Herald and the framework released this week.

  • Black Lives Matter movement

The pilot program curriculum included instruction on "the origins and mission of the Black Lives Matter movement and Movement for Black Lives."

The new curriculum does not require the BLM movement as a topic of instruction, instead noting it as a sample project topic on a list which the College Board says "can be refined by states and districts."

  • LGBTQ studies

The pilot curriculum included a section focused on "Black Queer Studies," which also included mention of works by writers such as Cathy Cohen, Roderick Ferguson and E. Patrick Johnson.

The new framework mentions Black lesbians' sense of exclusion from the civil rights movement and the women's movement in a section on Black women but does not include the term "queer studies" and only lists "Gay life and expression in Black communities" as a sample project topic and not a required topic.

  • Reparations

Lessons in the pilot curriculum had highlighted the discourse around reparations for America's history of slavery and discrimination. Suggested texts included works by Ta-Nehisi Coates, a journalist and author who in 2014 published "The Case for Reparations" in The Atlantic.

The new framework only includes one mention of "reparations" as a sample project topic and not a required part of the course.

  • Mass incarceration

In the pilot curriculum, the course's instructional focus on Black lives today included teachings on the history of Black incarceration from the 13th Amendment to the present as well as its relationship to the larger prison industrial complex.

Students would have learned about the "relationship between carceral studies and abolition movements" through works by scholars such as Michelle Alexander, who is best known for her 2010 book "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness."

The new curriculum includes instruction on the exploitation of imprisoned African Americans during the early 1900s but mentions incarceration and criminal justice only once — also as a sample project topic and not required teaching.

  • Movement renamed

The unit on "The Black Feminist Movement and Womanism" was renamed to "Black Women and Movements in the 20th Century."

Several prominent Black women writers, including bell hooks, Audre Lorde and Alice Walker, are no longer in the curriculum.

The College Board in a statement after the release of the updated framework said that "no AP courses, not one, not ever, has required a list of secondary sources in their frameworks."

Sure. As long as political ideologies do not slide it between the lines and the information is delivered factually and without current political agendas, I see nothing wrong with any of these topics. Sounds interesting.

Show me the evidence this is being done.  Prove to us that this is even a real problem.  With your reasoning, you can assume that CRT ideology is being introduced into Sunday school classes...just because YOU say it is.  If  the Tucker Carlsons of the world make this stuff up to sell their advertiser's products, why do you believe it's true?

Why do you believe that you are the only person concerned about this?  It is logical to believe that this is only a concern to far right wingers?  Do you think that there are any thought processes going on about what to do with these balloons that might differ from what you believe should be done?  Are you expert in military game theory?  Could the solution  be larger than the direct line between the balloon and the rocket that could blow it up?  Americans traded their souls when we gave over our economy to China in exchange for cheaper crap.  Thank you Richard Nixon. The mindset of the average Joe in this country needs to be changed and until we instill the will in the voters to pay more for a disposable pen or razor, we are doomed to lose to them.

Did I say that I think I am the only one concerned about the Chinese spying on the US, or that it was only "far right wingers". I absolutely know it is not my place to know or tell the military what to do in this case. That would be up to the Chief Commanding Officer (ie Biden). My concern is that Biden has not been making very good decisions for our Country (as pointed out in my other post) so no, I don't trust him or his admin to do the right thing and/or even know what the right thing is to do.
I do agree that we sold our soul to China but as you pointed out the citizenry didn't have any choice in the matter because it is the government that has been making those decisions for quite awhile now and nobody (except the Trump admin) has even tried to reverse course. And maybe if the Dems and their media didn't consistently attack him every single minute of every single day he just might have made some headway on this and other issues that were good for the US/we the people.
I also agree with the other poster who stated the CRT is alive and well in K-12, and as I have mentioned before you would need to watch/listen to other "news" sites besides the liberal main stream news to see and know this.
