What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

60 Percent Of Americans Will Have An Election Denier On The Ballot This Fall

Quote

From the Carolinas to California, Montana to Florida, election denialism has spread across the country. Candidates who support former President Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen will appear on ballots in nearly every state this fall.

Look at the numbers compiled... the number of republican politicians forwarding rising in the wave of election lies is astounding.

I agree that the lock down was a contributing factor.  However, recruiting had been becoming increasingly more difficult, and a growing number of applicants were deemed ineligible for a variety of reasons.

If you have an otherwise qualified applicant, a history of marijuana use should not be a disqualifier

As you said, the federal government will need to convince social conservatives that federal cannabis laws are a problem.

Released without bail.

Would this indictment suggest that similar misuse of funds to "Stop the Steal" could result in indictment? In each state where residents were conned out of money?

One of the mountains was renamed here in Alaska. The new name was decided by the village and native voices.  It honors native American women.

Well done.

Our county did something similar a few years ago. A local tribe designated the name to be the  same as a village that was historically in the area.

I guess this is not new, but it's the first I've heard that Sen. Ron Johnson's answer to labor shortages is to lure retirees back into the work force.

As someone who is looking forward to retiring in a few months, this does not look very enticing to me. People in my family do not historically live long lives, so I'd like to enjoy a couple of years of retirement after working and paying social security tax for 50 years.

There are a lot of people from other countries who would be happy to immigrate and work in the USA. To me, this looks like a more stable plan to bolster the work force.

It sounds like a good idea because of inflation people might be lured back to pay extra expenses, especially those with SSI only.

The above contradicts some of what this article below states about retirees and inflation.

My best friend is retired and is weathering inflation well.  He had been living on his pension but now gets SSI so the SSI is covering inflation.

I'm not saying that retirees shouldn't work. I don't think it is a great long range plan to fulfill labor shortages, especially in the areas with the most shortages: food service and hospitality, retail, healthcare and manufacturing.

I have toyed with the idea a getting a part-time job after retirement, but I am not going to stand on my feet for 8 hours with people complaining about how short staffed we are. I also need to consider exposure to infectious disease.

When I leave the work force it will be for good.  A lot of retirees here get some part gigs as baggers in grocery stores but it might be to pass the time rather than financial necessity.

No for the long term, offering retirees an incentive to work isn't a solution.  Immigration support is one solution but we aren't about that even though there are literally thousands of people knocking at our doors to work.
