I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news. I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

QuoteAccording to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.
Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.
The arrested the guy the next day.
What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Why Does the U.S. Have So Many Mass Shootings? Research Is Clear: Guns. https://nyti.ms/2hODjP5
The NRA, supported by one political party more than the other has gotten in the way of meaningful legislation and even manages to overtly interfere in attempts to reduce gun violence...like with the Dickey Amendment. That language essentially chilled CDC education and data compilation on gun violence for years. I think that was the intent.
Outside of it being good for business why might the NRA encourage more guns in the USA even though their presence is directly related to rising gun deaths? Given that the NRA was discovered to be using Russian money to influence politicians and was working directly with a Russian spy is it possible that the NRA doesn't really care about American democracy or the general welfare of We the People?

It would be interesting to hear others opinions about the gun crisis as it relates to their beliefs about gun ownership in the home. With and without children in the home. It would also be interesting to know the not just the amount of guns per million ppl but also where exactly these guns are? In which demographic areas. More specifically who holds the most guns in their towns. Yes Im serious I want to know. I find it very strange that a lot of very poor people have very easy access to guns. Yet I don’t believe that this is where the majority of guns are kept. (Shrug).
I think the reason they will always keep something like the Dickey Amendment around is because they don’t really want to put out any thorough information as it relates to the possession of guns and its impact on crimes/death because of their beliefs about the right to bear arms. Trust and believe the findings would be staggering and would highlight our duties as humans to protect and preserve our species. If that’s truly what we want to do… ?

I think there is some middle ground to get to between the gun restriction and gun rights folks. And both political parties use the division on the issue it's created to their advantage when they can.
However, imo that's not really the issue. I think there is a ever growing lack of respect and value for our fellow human lives. I'm not sure how we fix it.

Of course news organizations, all of them, reported they were non-binary. That's too juicy not to and adds a bit of drama to the story. As does his MAGA grandfather and his real father that thought he committed suicide years ago. News outlets are like that.
Maybe when people found out they were non-binary the talk of "it was a homophobe, probably MAGA religious nut, killer it was an attack on LGBT people" did die down. The knee jerk reaction proved a bit off. But they still could have been a homophobe killer nonetheless. But doesn't it make sense to change the tone a little bit as facts come to light? Such as why would a nonbinary person that's marginalized by society go to an LBGT place where they'd be accepted and murder people? Yeah the emphasis changed. But not in my opinion to "oh they are nonbinary, let's show some empathy for the mental anguish in their life".
I think things toned down because that's the way news cycles tend to work. I checked Fox News (they're still rambling about Fauci), BBC, MSNBC, CNN, CBS and none of them are emphasizing anything because they've moved on. CBS is the only one even covering the Walmart murders but not the Colorado murderer. Maybe because he's African American he's getting a different narrative? (see how that sounds)
Unlike Parkland I think both Colorado Springs and Walmart both are going to just die down in our well of hopelessness in what to do about such things. It's the holidays, we have better things to do what what's another mass shooting anyway. Just another day.
However, I can only acknowledge how you see things and then present how I see things. Interesting two people can see two different things.
If the kid had a maga hat and was a registered Republican, the story would never die down. When the narrative doesn’t fit what the media believes it should be it goes away.

There’s more than one “media narrative” out there … which one are you talking about?

You're kidding, right?
There have been 610 mass shooting this year alone. What media narrative do they fit into?

The narratives of mass murders change as facts come out. For example the shooting at an African American church was different than the shooting at Walmart, which was different than the shooting at Parkland, which was different at the movie theater.
So saying "if the shooter war a MAGA hat...blah blah blah" the narrative would be different, well that's a big fat DUH. Of course it would be.
I really don't like to deal with "what if's..." anyway. It's a deflection because some people aren't liking the narrative of what's in front of them so they invent a fantasy scenario.
I can understand the criticism of the "hate crimes against the LBGT community" to something something when it turned out the shooter was part of that community. Again, DUH.....but to deflect to what if's...I won't engage in that.
Actually, I wonder if the shooter were an illegal immigrant transgendered woman with a Biden-Harris 2024 hat that shot up a Trump rally what would the narrative be?
