What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Am I wrong?  Can you refute it?

The Colorado police didn't enforce the law, not Biden and Biden is in favor of banning assault style rifles, not the Colorado police.  You were correct the first time, you don't know what your statement meant.  It's nonsense...was it intended to be inflammatory because it doesn't seem to be making a point?

"Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly criticized his own party's ineptitude in responding to the border crisis, in an interview with The Washington Post on Tuesday. The Democrat was blunt when asked if he thought his party was doing a good job in recognizing the magnitude of the problem at the southern border and Americans' frustrations with it not being addressed.

"Absolutely not. Not even close," he told the paper. "When I first got to Washington, it didn’t take me long to realize that there are a lot of Democrats who don’t understand our southern border and a lot of Republicans who just want to talk about it," he explained."

I thought the politicians were supposed to listen to the experts on these matters?  No public health emergency as of yet.

At my peds ED, during our busiest times of the day, we have 44 or so beds running.  Then, during our busiest time of the year which usually doesn't start until January, those will be full, and 20 to 30 in the waiting room,  with the longest waits being 2 to 3 hours,  sometimes up to 4.

This week, 55 beds running with 50 to 60's in the waiting room.  Longest wait I've seen 8+ hours.  Some considerably sick  kids who should go right back, waiting 2 to 3 hours.

If there was to be a public health emergency in the peds population,  this would be the time for it.

As a population we sort of suck at responding to public health emergencies...what are we expecting?

People are starting to look nationally and say ‘this could be the answer.’ I think they need to be cautious about that. … It’s very confusing,” said Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska).

Sullivan, who won reelection under the old system in 2020, said many voters failed to comprehend the system as he took questions at a booth during the Alaska State Fair in Anchorage shortly after the August primary.

“Ninety-five percent of the people talking to me about our new ranked-choice voting system were saying how utterly confusing it was,” Sullivan said. “That was in the primary, so there’s some learning that goes on before in the general. But this idea that this is going to bolster confidence in the system I think remains to be seen.”

The new system affected both the general election and the primaries.

In the old system, Republican candidates competed in one primary while Democrats competed in another.

In the new system, all of the candidates took part in a nonpartisan primary election, with the top four candidates advancing to the general election.

This effectively helped moderate candidates while hurting more partisan candidates.

One national Republican involved in the race noted that former President Trump, who had battled with Murkowski, did not feature prominently in the race. The last ads featuring him rolled out near the July rally he held in Alaska for Palin and Tshibaka.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also played a big role in the race.

I guess when republican campaigns insist that ranked choice voting is too confusing for them then those republican voters may end up feeling too confused to elect republican candidates. Now Alaska Republicans are busy planning to get rid of ranked choice rather than figure out how to create a political message that appeals to moderates as well as conservatives.

I know that his grandfather is a MAGAphile because he wears MAGA gear and he celebrated the events of January 6. Again, the word was used as a descriptor only... you supplied the negative connotation.  Well done.

Yes, the DA should have done his duty but the laws allow him discretion and people in that region are very fond of loose application of gun laws. After that bomb threat incident that had neighbors scrambling to safety the police didn't even trigger the state's "red flag laws" so I don't expect much to change.

Our first question is generally "why" and that often leads to "how were they radicalized". These acts of violence are a form of terrorism.

If you think Mr., I mean Mx. Aldrich was "radicalized ", it seems he, I mean they, may have been influenced by the woke crowd.

So, now that our current president is MIA in response to health experts' request for this one, it's the fault of our population?

LOL... that's quite a change fron when Trump and the MAGAphiles were to blame for such a thing.

That's interest because wasn't it the voters that voted for the ranked choice system.  I understand the general public these days is dumbed down but I would hope they had an understanding of it when the voted for it to be their system.  It's because it didn't go the republican's way that they decide the public is confused.

Clearly he was radicalized...that's what we call it when men are convinced to take violent action because of their grievances. Are you uncertain as to the meaning of radicalized or do you disagree that mass shootings are a form of radical expression?

So, to clarify... are you saying that the killer was influenced by the empathy of others or he was influenced by the mocking of empathy of others? Which do you think influenced him to murder people in a nightclub as if they have no value?
