I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news. I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

QuoteAccording to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.
Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.
The arrested the guy the next day.
What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

I admit to being part of the post-pandemic spending spree. I made good money during the 2020 and 2021 and didn't spend it much then. I just remodeled one of my bathrooms at great expense and with the easing of covid restrictions I'm traveling outside the country next week for the first time since pre-pandemic times. I go to the movies in theaters more, concerts, restaurants more.
We had a good Summer season here. A lot of the visitors were Floridians because of gas prices not wanting to travel too far.
I am going to have to tighten my belt some though as the pandemic earned money is spent, and I'm not working overtime, and inflation, especially in home and car insurance here in Florida, as well as essentials, is taking a bite.
Yes, and I have tightened also but try to patronize a restaurant once or twice a week for lunch. But I've been through this cycle before, especially in the 70's when it became difficult to buy gas without paying attention to what the last number of your license place was:) I was a public school teacher and my school was closed several times because of a lack of oil and ability to provide hot meals to kids who weren't going to get one at home. I think that we are evolving to a lifestyle the Europeans have had for decades already. Our apartments will be smaller, smaller cars and applicances, etc. But I also don't believe that will put a dent in my lifestyle since I don't live lavishly. We will get through this but our lifestyles will be permanently changed - just the way it's always been if one was paying attention to the future.
Children's hospitals call on Biden to declare emergency in response to 'unprecedented' RSV surge
QuoteDoctors are calling on the Biden administration to declare an emergency in response to an "alarming surge" of children hospitalized with respiratory syncytial virus and flu this season.
The Children's Hospital Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics warned President Joe Biden and Health Secretary Xavier Becerra in a letter this week that "unprecedented levels" of RSV combined with increasing flu circulation are pushing some hospitals to the breaking point.

My 6 year old grandson has all of his vaccines, had COVID twice and now is out of school with RSV. My old friend traveled to Oregon recently and returned very sick with RSV. Our health system is struggling under the weight of these transmissable diseases and a population that views mitigation as an issue ofindividual freedom rather than patriotic duty.

QuoteA former senior aide to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was convicted Thursday after being found guilty of helping to funnel illegal foreign campaign contributions from a Russian national into former President Trump's 2016 campaign.
Driving the news: Jessie Benton, 45, orchestrated a scheme to conceal the illegal foreign donation with another GOP operative, per the Justice Department. Benton, the husband of Paul's niece and a veteran Republican staffer, faces up to 20 years in prison. His attorney told the Washington Post Benton "maintains his innocence and plans to appeal."
Federal prosecutors say Benton arranged for the Russian national to attend a political fundraising event for Trump's campaign and take a photo with Trump.
For the record: Neither Trump nor his campaign was aware of the Russian person's nationality, the DOJ said.
Zoom in: The Russian national wired $100,000 to Benton's political consulting firm to make an illegal foreign contribution, but Benton allegedly pocketed $75,000 and gave $25,000 to the campaign, falsely identifying himself as the donor.
He faced six criminal charges, including conspiracy and abetting illegal foreign political contributions.
Flashback: Benton was previously convicted of filing false statements as part of a scheme to funnel money from Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign to an influential Iowa politician who backed Paul in the state's presidential caucus.
Trump pardoned Benton shortly before leaving office.
Pence was on Meet the Press this morning calling the connections between Trump's campaign and Russians a "hoax". I guess that some republican voters still believe that smoke screen, eh?

What they will say is that Trump wasn't involved in Benton's activities which might be true. That Benton with his prior conviction (that was pardoned by Trump) even got the job is crazy. Let's hope Trump doesn't have the chance to pardon him again.
QuoteThe speeches by the 2024 hopefuls at The Venetian Resort here displayed how little deference Trump is receiving in the wake of his campaign announcement last week. Increasingly, they see him as beatable. And his launch two years out from the next election — with a special counsel now hovering over him — has created a big and lasting target for the roster of alternatives.
“He’s not going to have the financial support he had anymore, he’s not going to have the internal support that he had before,” said New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, whose state hosts the first-in-the-nation GOP primary. “And so therefore, there’s opportunity there. That political weakness is blood in the water for some folks.”

I hope this is a sign that Trump's stranglehold on the Republican Party has been loosened and there will be a field to pick from and they pick someone else. I'm so over Trump.

Most of us here are exhausted by him. Can't wait to get through a day without hearing that name or grating voice. That will be a great day!

Do you think that they/we can be done with him if there is no accountability? Does it seem to you that Kevin McCarthy or the Freedom Caucus are distanced from Trump? They are about to dictate House agendas.

I work in the ED at one of the hospitals mentioned. It is indeed insane. One morning recently, at 7am (usually the least busiest time of day in the ED) when we are staffed to hopefully have no more than 24 patients total, we were boarding 32.

I think what we might see is that those people might take up the cause of very right wing conservatives and, if I may "Trumpism", because they believe in it and from a political point it makes sense because they need to appease his voting base, but they might do it without Trump as their leader. The exception might be Marjorie Taylor Greene as she is so deep up Trumps orifice she can't see the daylight.
But like I said, "Trumpism" is alive and well and will be.
DeSantis is wise right now in sitting quiet, waiting for the public and other candidates turn on Trump, or waiting for Trump to have a melt-down and self-destruct.
"CBS News said Monday that it confirmed the authenticity of data from Hunter Biden’s former laptop — more than two years after The Post first revealed its contents ahead of the 2020 presidential election — as the first son’s lawyer complained that he didn’t “consent” to the release."

This makes me happy.
Apparently ranked-choice voting has held up to court challenges over the years as being legal.
So when voters elected in 2020 to adopt this system was it only Democrats that voted for it so they could rig the election, or did Alaskans in general vote for it?
BTW, I didn't know Alaska did this. Who proposed it? A Democrat?
About Tom Cotton, he opposed it in his home state and doesn't like it. Fair enough.
Still Palin would have lost even if it were traditional primaries.
In the first round yes 60% voted for a republican but the Democrat still came in first place with 40% of the vote. I've always known him to be a smart man but his twist on this is pretty lame.
