What do you carry...

I was wondering what type of ID do you wear? One around your neck or clipped onto your pocket. Also I was wondering what do you carry in the pockets of your scrubs?

ID on retractable holder clipped to the neck of my top. Steth around my neck (careful though, almost got strangled with it once...). Alcohol wipes in this perfect alcohol wipe-sized pocked on my scrub pants. Black pen and pen light clipped to right pocket. Scissors in right pocket. Red pen, dry erase marker, roll of tape, floor phone and calc in left pocket. Carry all my notes on a clipboard. Also guilty of being a creature of habit. Started out carrying a lot more, but it was too bulky. At times I've wished for a tool belt. Or the courage a friend of mine possesses to actually wear a fanny pack. :p

luckily for us we have nurse servers that have just about everything we need in our rooms. I am extremely spoiled. In my right pocket I carry a 4 in 1 color pen (a nursing MUST) and my keys to the nurse server. In my left pocket, my cell and chap stick!

Badge on a retractable clip, clipped to the v of my scrub top.

Left pocket is cell phone & lip balm. Right pocket is a black pen, a red pen, penlight, sharpie, and a pair of scissors. My right pants pocket is my companion phone. In my back pants pocket are alcohol swabs. On occasion, I might have some tape or a few flushes in my pockets too; but this is rare. I generally just use those things as I need them and then put them back.

The stethoscope stays at the desk after assessments.

I used to work with a nurse that wore a fanny pack. It seems at the last hospital I had clinical at, we were not allowed to carry our own tape to use a bit here and there. If you had a roll in your pocket and used it in a room, that is where it stayed. You then could put another roll in your pocket until you had to leave it in another room. No tape on the stethoscope for the same reason. Do others have that rule?

I think thats all...

P.S. I am VERY anal about what I carry. I can't start my day unless EVERYTHING is in place, in it's right pocket, and I have the right amount.

I have three pockets on my scrub top and to pockets on my pants:

Scrub Top Pockets-

ID on my V top.

Penlight

Sharpie

Pens

Stehoscope around my neck

Tape on Hemostats attached to the end of my top

Small notebook

Patient papers

Pant Pockets:

Wallet

Cellphone

Keys

All the clinical related stuff is in my top pockets and my personal stuff is in the pant pockets. I kinda wish I had a locker to put some stuff in.

We have to wear id badge at chest level, so retractable badge with a pen light is clipped to v-neck of my scrubs.

On my scrub top:

- Top left pocket: roll of tape.

- Left lower pocket (I'm a lefty): an organizer containing - multi-colored pen; perm marker; dry-erase marker; mechanical pencil; eraser; scissors; forceps.

- Right lower pocket: alcohol swabs, small post-it notes, and my brain sheet

On scrub pants:

- Left side pocket: change purse w/ credit cards/drivers license/enough money for lunch; and a tissue

- Right side pocket: my car keys

- Left cargo pocket: my cell phone (with nursing software) - and I set alarms as reminders - like at 6:00 pm when I need to do I&O's, clear IV pumps, and pull kardex's/prep report for the next shift

- Right cargo pocket: saline flushes

On my neck: stethoscope (I wish I could find somewhere else to put it cause my neck hurts at the end of the day!)

Question: why do folks carry gloves in their pockets?

Question: why do folks carry gloves in their pockets?

So you don't have to go searching for them, esp if you need an odd type/size of glove.
