What do you carry...

Published

I was wondering what type of ID do you wear? One around your neck or clipped onto your pocket. Also I was wondering what do you carry in the pockets of your scrubs?

Question: why do folks carry gloves in their pockets?

I work LTC. I keep gloves in my pocket for several reasons.

I have itty bitty hands (even smalls are a bit big) and need small gloves..most rooms have medium gloves.

Even though every room's bathroom is supposed to have gloves in it doesn't necessiarly make it the case.

I tend to find myself having to look at a skin tear or some other would involving blood in odd places (family member grabs me in the hall and shoves a bloody arm in front of me)

Some of my residents need a face wiped of drool or of dinner left over on their face, need assistance blowing their nose while they are sitting in the TV room (or where ever). If given a snack some of them will make an aweful sticky icky mess on the cup/silverware/plate they are using, when I grab it to throw it away, I don't want that sticky mess all over my hands(a mix of who knows what body fluid and the afternoon snack).

People don't always fall/get hurt/need some sort of attention when in their rooms, if a resident falls and i have to assess them I don't always have the luxery of having the bathroom box of gloves handy.

As the boy scouts say.."always be prepared" I have needed gloves in so many situations that happened that weren't near the med cart box of gloves or close enough to a room to run into the bathroom to grab a pair

Some of you guys carry so much stuff I wouldn't be able to keep my clothes on!

I have my ID on a break-away lanyard and my hospital keys are also attached (otherwise I'd lose them and that could be a very bad thing!) Other than that, I have a pen and a phone.

LOL! I can't carry any more than I do or I get droopy drawers, so I know EXACTLY what you mean!

I carry extra sterile gloves for when I have to suction OET's. The gloves that come with the suction caths are not made for large hands.

I am always somewhat surprised when I see women using the gloves from the kit and they look like little kids wearing their parents stuff.

If the gloves are too big for most women and too small for an average guy, just who are they meant to fit?

No one. Just like those godawful hospital gowns.

I have an ID clipped to the V-neck of my scrub top. It's attached to a retractable holder.

ID on a retractable thingy on the Vneck of my scrubs with a penlight and sharpie attached. The scrub tops we have don't have pockets (!?!?!?!?) so my pants pockets are shoved full:

Carpuject, Flushes, IV caps, tape, alcohol swabs, 4 in 1 color pen, highlighter, bandage scissors, cell phone, money, keys and my brain. A lot of other random things get shoved in over the course of the day. I am not quite as organized as most of you in my pockets!

Badge clipped to a retractable holder

In pockets:

ONE pen that clicks to multi colored options

At least 2 black pens

Thin point black Sharpie

Hemostats/scissors

Alcohol swabs

One highliter
