What career did you have before nursing?

Published

And how long did you stay in that job? I am a retail and restaurant recruiter. I have been working from home for the past five years. Before that, I worked in the brokerage field. But I have always wanted to be a nurse. I will be starting my very first prerequisite (Chem 1032) in January 2012. I was advised to take one class at a time. I figure it will take me from start to finish a good 3-4 years. I am 45 years old. How about you? :D

I worked as a hospital chaplain and local church pastor for 10 years. I have been an RN for 2. It took me 3 years while working FT.

Before I became a RN I was a Licensed and Registered Dental Hygienist. I also had gotten my Bachelors and Masters in Health Administration. I was teaching at a Community College in the Dental Hygiene program but could not get into a tenure track or full time professor...one day I was at a career fair with the head of the Nursing Dept and she said, "why don't you come on over to the nursing program, I'll sign you up..." I said, "sure"...(on a whim)...I NEVER wanted to be a nurse...well, the next thing you know I am signed up for 19 credit hours!!!! I had to take Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology over again in addition to all of the nursing courses because mine were too old...and I had just gotten a divorce...and I had a 10 year old little girl...and I had to work part time as a RDH...but I DID IT...(that was my first year of Nursing school)...it was a blurrrrrrr...but I did great (a 4.0)...so now 20 years later, here I am still schlepping away doing this stuff......

I was 40 years old...when I became a nurse...

That is why I feel like if you really want something...you do not let anything stand in your way...you just do it!!

(and I am still not sure why I became a nurse)

I was a CNA. RN at the age of 24.

I'd like to expand my career, but hey, have you seen tuitions lately? Sheesh. I'll be dead before the loans are paid off. :)

Executive Assistant...

Just waiting for the NSapplications to be accepted... Hopefully I will be ready for the NCLEX by 39.

Excited to do something real and of value instead of glorified Cinderella to silly bosses.

I'd click on the little "kudo button" on your post but one was not there.

Quite a background, you have.
