And how long did you stay in that job? I am a retail and restaurant recruiter. I have been working from home for the past five years. Before that, I worked in the brokerage field. But I have always wanted to be a nurse. I will be starting my very first prerequisite (Chem 1032) in January 2012. I was advised to take one class at a time. I figure it will take me from start to finish a good 3-4 years. I am 45 years old. How about you?
I'd click on the little "kudo button" on your post but one was not there.Quite a background, you have.
Thanks, I was trying to convey that although I was not one of those people who always wanted to become a nurse..in fact I never did...nursing has been a good career for me, it's paid the bills and I have been able to work in a variety of venues so I have never been bored...maybe frustrated many times..but never bored!
I managed a Cumberland Farms. Dreadful company. Regional manager was piggish and told me when I quit he knew I wouldn't last because I was too smart! Was going to go to secretarial school...took the test they gave me. Was supposed to put in the correct capital letters. I fixed the punctuation and cleaned up the syntax. Was told I was too smart for the school.
Tried to get a job at the local newspaper since I had a degree in English, but I didn't know how to type. So at the old age of 26, off I went to nursing school because it was a recession proof job. I didn't want to be a nurse before I started school. After a few weeks in school, I couldn't imagine doing anything else....well Queen of Spain, but that job was taken. Almost 30 years later it was still one of the best decisions I ever made.
Retail; Teacher: licensed and taught in: PA, NJ, and NC; currently an insurance agent. Volunteered with: Monmouth County Park System, Hamilton Hospital...this is going way back...and also volunteered a CentraState Medical Center. Working on RN at 42 years old...don't worry, Julibyrd...have friend who is 52 years old and has been working on her RN since 2005....she takes some time to enjoy the road of life while getting where she wants to be :-).

Warts and all (and there are many) it is an exquisite profession.
What other profession can make you go home, shut the blinds, turn off the phone, whimper on your couch and suck the lifeblood out of you on a daily basis, yet somehow, mysteriously... replace it with something better?

Love it, thanks!! :)
I was a floral designer for 15 years and owned my own business for seven of those years while being a full time mom. I started nursing school at 39 and became an RN at 43. While in school I worked as a nanny for a little over a year and as a personal assistant to cognitively challenged individuals for a year and half.
Mom first always!!!
