What do you call the tracking device nurses sometimes wear?

Published

It's an oval plastic thing that clips to your scrub top and it's able to track where nurses are? Is there a trade name for them or are they called something?

What about using something like this: Tile - Never lose your phone, keys, or wallet, again using Tile’s Bluetooth tracker | Tile .

I'm pretty sure you can "assign" a tile to an item, and that way you can use multiple tiles to track various items you want to keep track of. There's a keychain or tag type; or there's an adhesive version.

I would contact the company, they have probably already implemented their tiles to track company assets for some company or another, and can instruct you on the best way to use their product for the purpose you need.

good luck.

"invasion of privacy" that is a serious note, and seriously Right-ON !!! Sometimes also called the invisible fence. Hello, 1984.

So true. I only want my dog microchipped or with a tracker in case of an accident if he got away. When I was younger and read 1984 and heard old timey sermons about the "mark of the beast" I could not foresee how that would ever occur.

If my employer starts off having to track me then they (to me) are essentially inferring:

1. They assume all staff are liars - just ask me where I am or where I have been and I will tell you.

2. They assume employees use their time fraudulently, and

3. Employee's will abuse the hospitals time and ride the clock.

Now I get it that these devices can be used to help track hand hygiene and help prove people were in Special Snowflakes room every 15 minutes in spite of them saying "No one came to help me to the bathroom for hours"but it creeps me out.

I would put it in the bathroom for the day and go about my patient care. Anything for the hospital to blow money on instead of humans. Thankfully my hospital is too cheap for either.

I didn't know they existed, but it sounds like something out of a sci-fi novel. If I can help it, I'll never work at a facility that has them.

It's the wave of the future; you may not be able to avoid them completely. I used to take mine off -- one more thing to dangle from my body, get tangled in my stethoscope, etc. I've noticed that many of my colleagues have "accidentally" flushed them down the toilet. I think that may have been what happened to mine as well.

Wow, I could never work somewhere that made us wear something like that.

You could if you had hungry kids.

I can't believe people actually wear these at work. This is a ridiculous concept. So professional our employers have to keep tracking leashes on us. Good lord.

Edit: I would NEVER wear one. Nope.

They haven't advanced to actually microchipping us so it's the next best thing...

I have read responses to this topic off and on for several days. I'm sorry....I cannot resist.

Ankle monitors. As in, what people on house arrest have to wear......

Now I will behave myself.....and try to figure out how to get oneself released from an ankle monitor...

I will change that to: new job!

I can see tracking being useful useful when trying to find someone, but 24/7? That is ridiculous.

I call it nurse lo-jack.

I wished I would have had something like this for a certain aide who was always disappearing. No matter who asked/assigned her a task, she was always helping someone else. Except when we compared notes, she was never with the person she said she was.

One night, at the end of the shift, we needed her help for a transfer, but she was no where to be found. Then she called us from the elevator that had gotten stuck. She was trying to sneak off the floor 30 minutes early. We told maintenance to take their time fixing the elevator. All the write-ups we had done on her had gone no where, but this one got her canned.

When my hospital got them (we use Versus), I suggested that it might be cheaper and quicker to just chip us in the neck.....but then we'd set off all kinds of alarms at airports, music venues, etc. I'm so used to it now....just one more thing to clip to my uniform.....
