What books should I buy?

I wrote a similiar thread to this but I guess I didn't ask the question right. From your experience, what books, pamphlets, materials, should a current nursing student or future student have? I want to read this material to get a "heads up" before I begin the program. What books do you recommend that are a must have or a big help. Suggestions would be great!!

I loved this one:

On the other hand, I found the "XXX Made Incredibly Easy" to be truth in advertising. They made difficult concepts so easy and basic they weren't of any value to me. The concepts were so watered down, that they didn't help me on exams at all.

My :twocents: YMMV.

I agree. Fluids and Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy and Saunders NCLEX review to me are musts for nursing school.

Hmmmm....glad it was useful for you, but our posts don't agree. :) I didn't find the Made Incredibly Easy series useful at all.

I browse the nursing section of the bookstores, including the college bookstore, and will buy whatever suits my fancy. I actually will open these books up and read when I am in bed occupying myself until I fall asleep. Of course, it helps to be employed so that one can afford books on nursing.

dont buy nothing! there is no need for it, if you cant find in your text book google it, then if it is not clear, walk into barnes and nobles, get the book that talks about what you are looking for, read and see if it helps! (or skip that part, and got to an instructor, tutor and ask for clarification, it is way better then the books!)

i am always looking things up in these books to answer questions on the student forums. they are very useful:

  • taber's cyclopedic medical dictionary
  • nursing care planning made incredibly easy (includes a cd of care plans)
  • pathophysiology: a 2-in-1 reference for nurses
  • mosby's diagnostic and laboratory test reference
  • nurse's 5-minute clinical consult: diseases (includes the signs, symptoms and nursing diagnoses for 400+ medical diseases)

you should also check out and bookmark some of the websites listed on this thread: https://allnurses.com/nursing-student-assistance/medical-disease-information-258109.html - medical disease information/treatment/procedures/test reference websites
