I recently received a nursing award at my hospital (yay!) in which I will receive $1,000 to be used for educational purposes. I have no student loan debt, and no plans to advance my degree at this moment. I was told that I could use it to attend a conference, travel expenses, purchase an iPad, etc. I have the whole $1,000 to spend ie. if a conference costs $500 to attend, I still have $500 to spend on something educational. I'm just wondering if anyone has any create ideas on what else I could do with the money? Thanks in advance!

Is this $1000 award tax free? Because, if not, you'll really have something like $610 instead of $1000 to spend.
