I'm hoping to start the RN-MSN track as soon as I graduate and pass the NCLEX in May! :laugh: If you don't mind, I'd like to keep up with y'all to see how you're liking the program.

I did the MSN Eduation Specialist last year (just a couple of courses are different from the Leadership/ Management). Completed in 11 months 5 days. EXCELLENT program - I now work part-time for WGU as an evaluator.

How it is like working for them? Are the supportive? pay well? or are they demanding and unrealistic? I'm thinking of applying with them.

I just started the RN-MSN track July 1! It seems like I have a ton of questions...but not even sure what to ask, LOL.

I have been thinking of going back to school for my MSN in either the Leadership or Education track through WGU. But just couldn't get the final step of hitting the submit button (application)... I work full time, currently paying for my mortgage and car loan - so financially, WGU is the best fit for me. Is there anyway, I can avoid the clinicals for MSN? Instead of doing clinicals, can I write thesis instead for my capstone / practicum? Thanks!

If it's required, then it's required for everybody. However, at this time there are no clinicals for the MSN program. I have heard that when they roll out the new format, there will be a practicum. The latest rumor I've heard is that this will be for people who start in September or October. But there are no clnicals (as in, go to the hospital and work a 4 or 8 hour shift alongside a nurse) in either the RN-BSN program or the MSN program at WGU.

Actually there's currently a 90 hour community health practicum requirement for the RN-BSN program. Not necessarily in a hospital, but definitely 90 hours within a preapproved site.

Yes, I know (I got my BSN from WGU in December) but I was specifically discussing the MSN program, not the BSN program.

The 90-hour practicum is not really "a pre-approved site" (unless you live in CA, then all bets are off) - it's 90 hours in the community - interviewing people, visiting various sites, observing the community. But that is so different from "clinicals" and each student can tailor it around their subject.
