Hi Everyone!!!!!
So lol I'm going to put my life in a nutshell, I'm 20 yrs old and I live in NY, and I'm considering on going to WCU to obtain my BSN, I have most of my science and general ed pre-reqs completed. I decided to go this route cuz I just wanted to get this over with, and I most definetly like the idea of getting my bachelors in 2yrs time versus getting my associates degree at my local community college in the same amout of time. Anyways I have read about the costs and stuff but I have just some basic questions for anyone that just enrolled, currently enrolled or an alumni of WCU.
1. How time consuming are the classes?
2. Are the clinicals hard?
3. Was the HESI entrance exam easy and what did it consist of?
4. What are the costs?
5.Are they helpfull at finacial aid?
6.Would a person be able to work full time while attending?
That's all I can think of as of now, so whatever help you can give me will be greately appreciated.
Sincerely,
Chikita =)
Good, better, best, never let it rest, until your good is better and your better is best!
Hi Chikita - By Grandfathered in I mean that if we were in the middle of our program or graduated that we would be able to have the accreditation attached to us as well. Does that make sense?Regarding the loans - the credit crunch has indeed made it more challenging to get outside personal loans. You need to in general have a FICO score of over 690 for the bare minimum to qualify. We got a personal loan for 25,000 and it is at a very high interest rate with accruing interest so we opted to do the payment plan as West Coast makes it very easy and does not charge a convenience fee or interest. Having said that, I realize not everyone has an extra 1,000 plus sitting around which is what I we have to come up with. If it gets to be too much we will revisit the private loan sector.
Make a Financial Aide appointment. I have found them to be very helpful. As a matter of fact; I have been very impressed with everyone I have come in contact with. I have read negative reviews about the program but do not see that personally in the dealings I have had with West Coast.
hi i know it has been awhile since this has been posted but i am interest in going to WCU once i graduate from highschool in June. I definately do not have 116k. my mother is on welfare and my dad is no where to be found and nobody in my family has good credit. do you think i can still go there if i get a part time job, with financial aid, and any loans i can possibly get? i really really do not want to go to a cc and i got into a couple cal state schools but it will take soooo long to get a bsn there. any info would be greatly appreciated
As I have shared I am attending WCU, having said that, if I was 17 and got into a state school, I would plug away at it that way. I think WCU has an excellent place in the education spectrum, but I do not think it is for everyone. I agree with the previous poster that it would be very hard for you to obtain the funding to go there.
Hey everybody.. I've been reading your posts about WCU. and I'm really interested in it, my only concern is the cost..
Right now I go to a cc and I'm still working on nursing pre-reqs..
Do you think I should continue with what I'm doing.. or look more into WCU's BSN program??..
What if I finished all my prereqs at the cc, then apply to WCU?
Thanks a bunch :)

cant you just take out loans to go there???? it takes forever to get a BSN at a state school and you are competing with all these other people for spots and you need like straight A's in pre req's. I'd rather go to WCU where you just have to pass your classes and you get you BSN
i'm currently at wcu in the bsn program in my first term of nursing classes. it's hard work and very time consuming.
IF i had gotten into state (i did apply and didn't get in even though i met all the requirements) i would go there purely based on cost because it is much much cheaper. but that didn't happen and i chose wcu because i reviewed all my options and i knew since i didn't get into state i would have to go to private anyways so i chose wcu because i'm graduating in two years.
it's a big decision and comittment to go here. there are administration problems as with all other schools, but i don't regret going here. this school has taught me that hard work and dedication is a part of being a nursing student and becoming a good nurse.
there are pros and cons to this school and really depends on you. for the most part i'm happy that i go to wcu, and there are days i just can't stand the school, but that's normal.
I only just started. but nursing school is really hard. I never studied so much in my life! And I got really good grades in HS. Jobs are kind of hard to get here in CA. Don't know how you study, but definitely limit the work hours. Seems like a bunch of people flunk out of nursing school. Don't know if they studied or not.
I have a question for those of you who DO go to west coast university, or have graduated.....
did you enjoy your time there? do you think it's a good nursing program?
Besides the money, which is a lot for everyone, I want to know if it's a school people are happy about going to......
And for those who graduated, where are you working now??
Thanks!!
Long.

]So it's official that their accreditation is legitimate now? Meaning are their units now CSU/UC transferable?
