West Coast University BSN Program???

Published

Hi Everyone!!!!!

So lol I'm going to put my life in a nutshell, I'm 20 yrs old and I live in NY, and I'm considering on going to WCU to obtain my BSN, I have most of my science and general ed pre-reqs completed. I decided to go this route cuz I just wanted to get this over with, and I most definetly like the idea of getting my bachelors in 2yrs time versus getting my associates degree at my local community college in the same amout of time. Anyways I have read about the costs and stuff but I have just some basic questions for anyone that just enrolled, currently enrolled or an alumni of WCU.

1. How time consuming are the classes?

2. Are the clinicals hard?

3. Was the HESI entrance exam easy and what did it consist of?

4. What are the costs?

5.Are they helpfull at finacial aid?

6.Would a person be able to work full time while attending?

That's all I can think of as of now, so whatever help you can give me will be greately appreciated.

Sincerely,

Chikita =)

Good, better, best, never let it rest, until your good is better and your better is best!

Hey. I just got accepted to WCU for the BSN program but might not attend since i still have to take biochem which i have to wait till FALL to take it at WCU. Thats a long wait. So i decided to go into AUHS (American University of Health Science) BSN program instead which starts end of this month. Anyways, i can help you out on some of the questions here:

1) Not sure how hard the classes are but im sure there tough like any other BSN schools

2) Not sure lol.

3) HESI is very easy. It's BASIC math and english. They will even allow you to use a calculater LOL. However, if you have a high SAT score, then you will be exempt from the HESI

4)Cost is about 116K. Yes 116,000! But thats if your straight out of high school. So assuming that you have taken most or all of your pre reqs the cost is cut down. Maybe around 60,000-70,000?

5) Financial aid was helpful. Make sure you bring your 2008 tax return with you to the appointment.

6) Nope. This is a full time program.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help Freshtodef!!! If anyone else could give me more info I would appreciate that so very much XD

how does AUHS work??

Chikita,

I have no idea how hard the classes are, or what the clinicals are like, because I have just recently enrolled and I start June 22. I do know the HESI exam is easy it consists of reading comprehention, some medical vocab, basic math, and thats about it. They are so helpful at financial aid I was really empressed :) And I have heard of people working full time and being in the program, but towards the end of the program, working may not be an option.

Wow New York! what campus are you thinking about going to? And when will you begin?

God you don't know how much relief you guys have given me by letting me know that the test isn't that hard XD

Yeah I know New York is pretty far away, but out here we only have accelerated bsn programs for people that already have bachelor's. Well If I pass the HESI I would be attending the Los Angeles campus, and beggining august 31st. What campus are you going to?

Well I live in Orange County so I will be going to the OC campus in anaheim by disneyland, But I read in your other posts about WCU's BSN being accepted into other master's programs... Well I have done a lot of research because I was also hesitant about attending WCU so I called around to colleges nearby. I called Cal State Fullerton, because they have an anesthetist school there, and yes they do accept WCU's BSN just make sure you get a higher GPA than 3.0 and that school will except people from WCU :)

I have been reading other threads and trying to get more infromation on WCU. I was really concerned with the fact that they are not NLN accredited. But it makes me happy that CSU fullertons anesthesist school recognizes them because that is what I want to do my masters in. Do you know if they are working on becoming NLN accredited? And what other schools have the anesthesist program?

hey everyone i have a question about wcu. i am interested in their bsn program, but have no idea what to expect. can someone tell me who already attends there, on what to expect, hence( cost of school, classes and financial help ). thanks i will appreciate it :)

Lyssa - that is great news! Who did you speak with at Cal State Fullerton?

I was told they are working on their NLN and if they get it that anyone there would be grandfathered in.

i spoke to kaiser permanente’s anesthetist program directly, whish it

correlated with csuf not sure who i spoke to, i'm sorry. the bsn program is about 116,000 dollars and it has all the pre reqs built in. they offer loans, and financial aid, but this really did not help me much, still very expensive.

hope this helps,

lyssa

Thanks Lyssa - yes, the Kaiser Permanete's program director does help :) Thanks so much!
