West Coast University BSN Program???
i'm currently at wcu in the bsn program in my first term of nursing classes. it's hard work and very time consuming. IF i had gotten into state (i did apply and didn't get in even though i met all the requirements) i would go there purely based on cost because it is much much cheaper. but that didn't happen and i chose wcu because i reviewed all my options and i knew since i didn't get into state i would have to go to private anyways so i chose wcu because i'm graduating in two years. it's a big decision and comittment to go here. there are administration problems as with all other schools, but i don't regret going here. this school has taught me that hard work and dedication is a part of being a nursing student and becoming a good nurse. there are pros and cons to this school and really depends on you. for the most part i'm happy that i go to wcu, and there are days i just can't stand the school, but that's normal.

starting nursing classes in february! :) need some answers
you're doing really well especially in pharm =). as for fundamentals, i bought fundamentals success which is just a book of NCLEX questions for fundamentals. it has been SO helpful. It helps me review. At my school, we have to do the ATI chapters in those books that we were given the first week (that box with all those books from ATI). The fundementals one is helpful because the Potter and Perry book is the main source, so it's basically a cliff's notes. After I've read and reviewed everything, I look over those. As for the 7 hours/day. I don't know so I can't say. Sorry, they're not telling us much. Only telling us what is necessary. To be honest, the Saunders book hasnt been helpful yet only because there isn't too much fund and pharm stuff. I'm thinking the Saunders book will come in handy next term when we start Med-Surg.

starting nursing classes in february! :) need some answers
my campus is completely disorganized as well, and it's because we are the first group, well I'm in the second group. Yes, it's true many people had to repeat the fund and pharm again, but I don't know what went on. I'm not in that group. All we were told was that the people who passed and went on to med-surg and phys. assessment spent about 7 hours avg on hesi and ati and that the practiced over and over. That's all I know. I can't say and won't say because I'm not a part of that first group so I don't want to say something that isn't true. What I said before was all my group was told. As for the tests, have you done a test taking tutorial? Those are very helpful. I studied one and it helped me alot. I got an 84 on my first pharm midterm and an 86 on my fund midterm. For me, I studied the assigned chapters, but I practiced NCLEX questions. My scores on HESI and ATI are low right now too, but just taking the test helped me with the midterms. I don't know. I wouldn't worry about what happened at my school, I don't think about it because it has nothing do with me. I mean just keep practicing and studying. I think it will get better. For the first pharm midterm, only about 6 people passed it, and we had our second one this week and everyone did MUCH MUCH better.

starting nursing classes in february! :) need some answers
hey girl86, um lol, well they're preparing us at ontario with lots of practice nclex questions. they said spend lots of time on the evolve and ati sites too. I'm taking mine in three weeks too so I'm pretty much in the same boat. I think lots of studying and practicing how to take those kinds of tests because they're trying to mirror the nclex exam to get us prepared for it. i just really hate the rule that you have to pass it with 76 or you repeat the class because you could totally pass it but get below a 76% because the questions are weighted like the nclex (knowledge Qs being worth the least and application and analysis questions being worth the most). I don't think this helped lol because well I've never taken the HESI but this is what I've been doing the past 5 weeks. It's been a crazy five weeks though, studying for every class plus studying for the HESI and then our med math test is this coming week. Hope things are going well at the LA campus!! =D

starting nursing classes in february! :) need some answers
thanks for such helpful replies! :) i looked up fundamentals success and pharmacology success and i'm gonna try and pick both of them up before my term starts. i'll definitely read ahead then too. I think my school made us order and NCLEX because we do HESI exams at the end of every term. I'll probably pick up the Saunders NCLEX before I start med-surg.

starting nursing classes in february! :) need some answers
Hi, I'm starting my first nursing classes on February 1st. I'm super super excited. I'm taking Nursing Fundamentals with skills lab and Pharmacology. I was just wondering if any of you had any tips to prepare for the class. I ordered my books and they should be here at the end of this week/beginning of next week. I already scheduled a study group with the same people I study with now. Should I read ahead? I ordered an NCLEX book because it was required for the class, but should I order the Saunders one? I heard that's a really good one. Thanks for your time! :)

west coast university...living arrangements...
I started august09. I came in with most of my pre-reqs done. I'm going to finish my 2nd term, and I'm going into nursing classes in February. So basically, I had to take biochem because they are so strict about that class. I only knew one person who had the equivalent class for their biochem. I'm taking pathophysiology right now because I didn't take that at my old school. I also had 3 other classes (speech, engl340, and cultural pluralism). I'm finishing those up now and tuition came out to about $90k. It includes all my scrubs, books, and fees. I was hoping it would be a little lower, so I would try to finish those pre-reqs if you can find a the equivalent classes. I live 20 minutes away from my campus by freeway. My friends that live in Ontario found some deals there because I think it was the beginning of the school year. Just from experience, I'm pretty sure it's cheaper to live in Ontario than say in LA near the NoHo campus or Anaheim because Ontario is one those cities where they are constantly building new property. It all depends on where you want to go. I thought about it for a long time, and I decided with Ontario because I knew I was going to live at home so I chose the place where there would be the least traffic. Alot of people post about living arrangements on the WCU facebook: http://www.facebook.com/WestCoastUniversity Hope this helps! :)

West Coast University
9fingers, There are classes scheduled for weekends and many classes scheduled during the evening. Although, it depends on the class. I'm taking pathophysiology right now and the only class section is offered on Saturday mornings. Last term I took biochem and I was scheduled for day classes. The only time you could switch is if you know someone in the other classes. Basically, sometimes there's isn't much of choice of when you take the class. If it's only offered during the day, then you have to take it during the day. Lots of people actually find people to switch with on the WCU facebook page. As for clinicals, I haven't started my clinicals, but I've been told at orientation that they have contracts with over 70 hospitals for all three campuses. I've seen people post on facebook that they go to Kindred. I've also been told clinicals can be anytime on weekends and in the evenings. It depends on the space they have and the contracts they have with the hospitals. I start nursing classes in 4 weeks so I'll come back to post because we have to do a nursing orientation then.

west coast university...living arrangements...
Hi, I'm a current student at the Ontario campus. There are no dorms at WCU. The school doesn't provide ways of finding living arrangements. I've seen people post about it on the WCU facebook page. You could try there. Other than that, I would just google for local apartments near your campus. Personally, I live at home still, but a couple of friends moved to some apartments really close to the Ontario campus. They had deals in August, so maybe they have some now. Hope this kind of helped.

West Coast University BSN Program???
Hi, new here. I'm currently in the BSN program at WCU-Ontario. I love it so far. :) I was told that the accreditation for CCNE is as good as official, but they don't want to announce it until they get the official word.

West Coast University
Hi! I'm new here, and I go to West Coast University-Ontario. I'm in my 2nd term and in the straight BSN program, and I'm so happy here...so far. :) I start my nursing classes next term and can't wait. I think that the classes are challenging at least the ones I've taken so far. Right now, I'm taking Pathophysiology and I have to study my butt off to keep my A. I also agree that it may seem pricey, but it's the same that you're going to pay at any other private university. The price scared me at first when I went to my meeting with my advisor, but god, I had terrible experiences at public universities. I went to CSULB, and I couldn't even get into my pre-req classes. I would crash them and I would be the 20th person on the sign up list. I went to CSULA and finished my pre-reqs. I applied to their nursing program, but they said my points weren't enough. Overall, I'm happy at WCU, and I would recommend it to those considering it.
