Hello to all.... I have been "lurking" on this website for quite some time but this is my first post. Like others that have posted on here before me, my NCLEX date is fast approaching and I am really getting nervous. I take it on Tuesday, Aug 18th at 0800. I have been studying for months. My Dad passed away in June, so I have rescheduled once already. Some days I feel like I could scream because I am so tired of studying, but I can't not study because if I fail - I don't want to feel like I didn't try hard enough. Sometimes I go through questions and I do well... other days, not so much! I seem to be all over the place with my scores, so I am getting a little concerned. I know that in the end, if I fail I fail and there will be growth to had from that. I guess there is really no point to my post.. just a way to vent my frustrations and get a little reassurance from people who can actually understand what I am going through.

Hi i wanted to let you all know to stop freaking out about this test because about 2 days ago i was a wreck!!!!!!!!!! This test is so scary before you take it because you hear that its really hard. I was studying 8-9 hours a day and starting threads on here to find out about the select all that apply to prepare myself until monday morning the big day. I studied so much thinking i still didn't know enough and kept telling myself the select all that apply questions were going to get me. I literally believed that. I came on here everyday reading everyone's post to keep me from going insane. Right before i took my test on monday the 10th i came on here and received the best advice . It was to take a deep breath before each question and relax and for the select all that apply questions view each answer as true or false and most of them have 3 answers. Easy for everyone to tell you to relax. My advice is to go to pearson vue website and do the nclex tutorial because that is what you see before you get to take your exam and the time it takes you to read that counts as your nclex time also.

here's how my morning of my nclex went:

Woke up at 5am

came on here

took the nclex tutorial on pearson

got my ati and id and got in my car

started driving at 6am( i didn't have to be there until 7:30 to take it at 8)

i studied all my notes for an hour in the parking lot(prayed in my car)

got into the building and found the suite # and walked in

i saw a bunch of men ready to take contractors license tests and for nclex test just me!!!!!!

I emptied my pockets of everything, put it all in a locker they provide, signed a form, and put my index finger up to be fingerprinted

some lady let me into the computer room which looked like a mini telemarketer place

gave me some ear plugs but i didn't use them

i skipped right through the tutorial straight to the exam (my heart was going so fast that i thought everyone else could hear it-i even sweat through my shirt!!!!!!!1)

i feel like i can't breathe (the first ? Pops up) i put my head in my hands and took a deep breath and said out loud please god let me pass this test and then i said you can do this!!

I looked at first question and said oh no because it seemed like two answers were just as good

i selected the answer and put my head in my hands again- a select all that apply popped up!!!!!!

Oh no, calmed myself, true or false, i can do this, i selected, another one popped up!!!!!!!!!

Then i started feeling good because i was told the more select all that applys the better

i kept going making tally marks for all those and med questions( i had 14 select all q's)

i got to question 85 and i put my head in my hands and selected

i looked up (blue screen) and then it says im done and im still freaking out

it wants me to do a survey( i just clicked on whatever to get the hell out of there!!!!!!!!!!

I got in my car and i felt good but then i started crying and then i felt good again-phycho!!!!!

Got home and didn't pay attention to my two year old or four month old because i went straight to pearson vue to do the trick i was told about- got the famous pop-up

(a little advice on the pearson vue trick- you have to sign in first, and then it will tell your appointment date you had and right next to it if it says delivery successful-click on register-put your info in and after you put your school info in click to go and if it doesn't let you go to payment and a pop up comes up you are in!!!!!!) oh and by the way the questions are not tricky or confusing they are actually quite straight forward (just breathe so your mind does't go blank and act like you are at home and block everything else out. I remember a couple times even on ? # 35 going your still in the game you can do this don't let this stupid test get to you.

advice on what to study

mental health assessment

droplet, contact, airborne precautions

remember the endinds of drugs

platelet count

maslows

priority- there is nothing you can read to answer these questions- on the nclex its more of who is not stable right now. There will be four pts and one is not stable- its not tricky-breathe

inh and b6

hematocrit

copd

dumping syndrome

diabetes insipidus and what minipress does

lupus

how to open sterile packaging- step by step

and there you go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Thank you, pkid3183! Good luck next Friday!

I took my NCLEX-PN exam yesterday and was flipping out because I didn't know how I did! It was so hard to gauge! As soon as I got into the parking lot, I couldn't even remember what questions I had gotten---it was all such a blur! It shut off at 85 and I was really doubting myself because I was guessing-- they were educated guesses, but still! I knew for sure I had gotten maybe 10 correct, and all the rest, I just had to try and remember from school! I graduated 3 months ago and was just not in the student frame of mind. I wasn't used to studying or memorizing or reviewing, and I didn't have the benefit anymore of saying "Oh, I remember that from class last week". But here in PA, our results are up within a day or 2 (unless you take it on a Friday) on the Dept. of State website, and I'm happy to announce in my first ever post on here that I just found out about an hour ago and.... I PASSED!!!!!

I can't even explain what a relief it is! No more brain-strain!

Here are some tips/things that helped me:

* start studying as soon as you find out your exam date! This gave me 2 & half weeks. I think if I had started any earlier, I would have forgotten some things. Having an actual test date really pushed me to study harder than I would have otherwise. My school recommended doing 3,000 questions before the exam. I did about 600. Don't go nuts

* Saunder's 4th edition book & cd-rom-- great! The cd-rom has a ton of questions and you can get immediate feedback in the 'Study' mode, or do 10 question quizzes or 100 question tests (Davis' 3rd edition is also pretty good)

* study ALL areas of nursing, but not too much in depth. You might get questions from peds, cardio, endocrine, renal, muscoloskeletal, dosage calculations, pharmacology, etc... or maybe none from any of those areas! You just need to be prepared, not an expert in any certain field

* get a good night's sleep!

* eat brain food, like protein, and drink water! I got to the test center an hour early and sat in my car and ate my lunch. I went in feeling awesome (physically anyway! haha)

* if you're into alternative things like aromatherapy, use it! The test center doesn't let you take in ANYTHING, not even gum or chapstick! But I put on this Eucalyptus Spearmint Body Lotion from Bath & Body Works. It's supposed to ''soothe & calm the body and mind''. I put it on my hands and arms, and whenever I got stressed in the exam, I'd take a wiff. It really helped, in my opinion... or maybe I just like the smell! Lavender is very calming too. I also have one that's Rosemary & Lemon roll on that's for "mental clarity'' and it's great too!

* take breaks! You can go to the bathroom as many times as you want! I only went once, around question 60. I got a drink of water, did some stretches, gave myself a little pep talk! It's too much pressure to think you have to sit and stare at a computer screen in this tiny cubicle for hours on end. You're allowed to get up, so do it!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE TAKING THE EXAM SOON!!!!:nurse:

I passed the nclex RN on my second try! My test was on August 10, and today I got my quick results! The pearsonvue trick also worked for me! I got 75 questions and the computer shut off! The first time I got 76 questions. I was soooooo happy to see the word Pass on the screen!!!! :yeah::yeah::yeah::BDCk::hpygrp::dancgrp:

thanks for your guys' tips. i take my test tomorrow and im starting to feel really nervous:uhoh21:, but i think your advice will help. i've been studying off of davis's nclex pn review book and taking tests on the cd it came with, ive been getting an average of 75-88% on the quizzes, ive been praying alot and been giving myself a lot of pep talks. i dont do the best on the sata questions so im pretty nervous about those. i have my lab values memorized, i do ok on med calculations, im trying to get the meds memorized as much as i can, i have been reviewing a lot about diseases like lupus, graves disease etc. and been studying over the precautions. im not sure if i just want to :banghead: or :crying2:. I live in colorado (a quick results state) thank godd so i only have to be a nervous wreck for 48 hours.

thanks to everyone!:bowingpur

I took my NCLEX RN today at 8am.I had all 265. I had a bad feeling as I was driving home. I got home and did the Trick and it let me go to the credit card section which means I failed. I am so tired of studying and of having my head hurt from having an information overload. i really didnt want to have to take that test again. It is like your life is on hold until you get it behind you.
