Wedding rings that sit "high" up vs. gloves

Published

Question: What do y'all do about wedding rings that sit kind of high up and tend to snag on gloves? Any tricks from you veterans? I've heard some cover them up with bandaids, others just take them off and wear them around their neck.... what's your solution?

i had my ring made with a very low setting. it's channel set, and doesn't get in my way at all.

Even if you wear gloves, there are quite a few that still have powder in them and that can make a mess of your stones. Stones can and do tear gloves, especially when making beds or even when cleaning something up..........unfortunately I have seen it quite a bit thru the years and it is not a pretty picture.

Back when I was married I would wear a thin, plain, band to work and wear the fancy ring everywhere else. *sigh* I miss that ring. I had a sapphire instead of a diamond.

I used to wear both my engagement and wedding rings. My engagement ring stuck up, so I used to turn it toward my palm, but I still had problems with it, so now I just wear my wedding band. My wedding band just has a small row of diamonds across it--nothing sticks out on it, no prongs or anything. One of the tiny little stones already has a chip in it. Darn it. I'm considering getting a band with no stones.

I like to wear my wedding ring because it gets pretty darn annoying to have patients ask me if I'm married, sometimes on a regular basis, depending on what patients we have at the moment. The fools ask me anyway (some repeatedly, and obsess over it; it really bugs me sometimes), and then try to tell me I must not be happily married. Right. Like they have a chance. :barf02: BTW, I'm working on a psychiatric ward. :smiley_aa :selfbonk:

Gotta love the smilies. :)

i have never worn my ring at work, i just have a plain gold band. i shutter to think about losing my ring when i see nurses with these big diamonds washing their hands and applying alcohol gel. not to mention what that junk does to your settings! i think that a good investment is an inexpensive band if you like, or not wearing one at all.

when i was in Ns the first time (LPN) i did "lose " my thne brand new engagement ring!!!!:uhoh21: i stopped wearing it after watching my beloved instructor going thru soiled linens to find it for me!!!:uhoh21: i eventually did find it, but was horrified that she had to do that. Now i have a very low setting and a channell set band. i do wear it to work but leave it in my wallet if i need to keep putting gloves off and on. (working in school i have that choice) i also used to keep the diamond off when doing homecare and just wear a band...some of the places i went it would have been a temptation to others in the home:p

When we're young its fun to 'show off' your brand new engagement/wedding ring, I remember. Not on the job as a nurse tho....we were encouraged in school to just leave jewelry at home and 99% of us did. This was Minnesota.

Now fast forward to nursing in Texas...where nurses have big hair and bigger diamonds...LOL!! A nurse dropped her huge diamond ring down the drain at work...and was a freaking basket case while maintenance pulled the trap out to retrieve it. Luckily it was still there.

I stopped wearing my ring (and no, I'm not married :) It was a gift to me from my parents when I reached "of proper age" - it was a 24K gold ring with 9 precious stones. Stones were set according to my birth chart) when it became an irritating thing to keep watching out for - especially when putting on sterile gloves.

As a consequence I barely wear it anymore - which is kinda interesting because females seem to notice that my hands are "clean" which is just fiiiiiine by me :chuckle :D

Careful with the wedding ring. I know a nurse who when removing her gloves, the diamond came out inside the glove, she didn't know, and tossed it in the garbage!

She realized it was missing later that day, and we went fishing thru trash cans and inside out gloves. YUK But we found it.

She said that was a 5,000 $ mistake.

same here. the setting completely goes around the stone, it won't snag and looks great.

I turn the the setting toward my palm when applying my gloves and never have a problem.

That's a good trick to know about. I'm constantly changing gloves in L&D and Well Baby nursery and since mine is a princess cut (square diamond), it's alway getting snagged on something.

After reading this thread, I'm concerned about what else could end up in the ring. The place where we got the ring said I could come in and have it cleaned whenever I wanted to, but I don't know how often I can get over to that part of town.

In places where they don't allow you to wear wedding rings to work, will they at least let you wear a simple band? I know that I've only been married a short time, but in this short time (one year since I've been wearing a something on that finger at all since we were engaged) if I leave the house w/o my ring, it feels like I'm really forgetting something.

Any thoughts?
