Please advise.

I know everyone has worked extremely hard to get where they are. I do not enjoy having to ask for this type of advice...I have seen, (more than once, in more than one class) two people who are constantly cheating on exams.

They sit right next to each other and neither this instructor nor the last instructor we had in another class noticed it.

I do not know how to deal with it any longer. I am not the only one who has noticed it but no one wants to say anything unless it can be anonymous. Please offer any suggestions you may have to this sensitive topic. These people are going to be NURSES! I just can't wrap my head around it. Thank you in advance for any advice you may have.

This is certainly frowned upon at my school and I'm sure every school. At my school, you get kicked out. Here's how I feel....I 100% agree with the school policy. I've busted my a$$ to get "As" and I don't feel it's right that people can cheat and move on and on into the program. Ask yourself this...would you feel comfortable having these cheaters be your nurse if you're ever a patient? If it were me, I would tell...anonymous or not.

I would tell. I have busted cheaters before. I don't understand why you wouldn't. Are they long-time friends of yours who are cheating because they work three jobs to support their families and don't have time to study? Are they holding someone you care about hostage? LOL! Go ahead and tell the instructor. You may get some dirty looks in the future, but so what?

I think you know what to do. An anonymous note should suffice.

I appreciate all of your advice. I do know what to do....I just needed to hear it. The sad thing is I helped them with study guides that were quite respectable to help them understand the material. The bottom line is none of us would want to work with those people or encounter them as patients.

Again, many thanks for your wisdom.

Then say something anonymously. If you are certain it is cheating, then it should be reported so it can be addressed.

Fortunately, this is unlikely in our classes - on test days, we have assigned seats far away from each other and all bags, jackets and electronic devices (except calculators during med cal exams) are placed up on the stage (yes, our lecture is held in the school auditorium)....which is fine because I'm skittish over people looking at my paper and don't want there to be any mistaken impression that I would try to cheat.

It's pretty easy to make an anonymous email address (hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc.).

When you report it, I would be sure to give as many details as possible -- who, when, where, how, etc. It will be a lot easier for the instructor to "catch" them then next time if they know what to be looking for (looking up answers via phone-internet, copying off other students' papers, reading off notes/arms/shoes/etc.).

Send anonymous note to the teacher... that's what I would and will do if I see anyone cheat on something I work really hard on.

In our honor code at our school it states that if you ever catch anyone cheating, you are required to report it. A few fellow students and I have already had to let the professor know about some students caught cheating and it sucked. You can do it. Just know that you are not doing anything wrong by letting a professor know. I'm sorry you were put in this situation. Good luck!

If you do not want to single out the students in question by telling your instructor, so n so are cheating on the tests. Suggest to the instructor that it would be really easy to cheat during the exam and suggest a way to fix that. i.e. space out seating, monitor the room. or whatever. This would not only discourage what they are doing but also anyone in the future that may think about it...... Although, I would report the students specifically myself. If your school has a student association of any kind, go to one of the officers and discuss it with them, they will have a rapport with the instructors that will allow them to address it. Speaking as an officer myself I would do that if it was needed.

This cheating thread has gone over a heck of a lot better than previous ones! Im glad to see most people would report it to the instructor. Once you have made it aware to them, it is in their hands and can actually make something happen from it. We had it happen at our school once and several students made it aware to the instructor. The girl was eventually caught, but never dismissed which really upset all of us. Either way do the right thing.
