  1. Where did you end up commuter? Thank you dazzles that helps a lot. I will be coming down to Austin in Nov. to see what the city is like and to tour a few facilities. So we will see what happens.
  2. Well, is it really that nice to live there or is it just hype?
  3. I was quoted an offer in ED in Austin for about $23/hr with a little over 1 years experience. Is this about average for the area? Austin seems to be quite expensive to live is this enough money to make it there? What else should I know about nursing in Austin and TX? -stAx
  4. I have seen a post or two or more that talk about Men being treated differently than women in Nursing. I am just wondering. Does this really happen that often? Is this really a problem? I have bee in and around nursing for about 3 years now and I have not once experienced this to myself or anyone else. My question is. Are you being discriminated against because you are a man or because of the old stereotype of Gay men being nurses? Which one is causing the discrimination.
  5. I like the stuff Landau makes.
  6. I have been offered a position in the ER at Sunrise in Las Vegas. If I accept this position I will be moving to LV from Kentucky. Does anyone have any information as far as facility, city, state licensure or things to watch for or avoid? Any and all information in appreciated. Thank you, stAx
  7. I have noticed at several hospitals that they have these clocks that are external or even on billboards around town that say ER Wait time 10, 20, etc mins. Does anyone work at one of these ER's? What exactly is the time counting? registration, Triage, time to room, time to nurse, time to doc? Have these clocks changed how you have to do anything? Do you get complaints if people wait longer than the clock says?
  8. Oh oh oh I had a patient decline a Lortab Rx !!! Thanks but I can get by with ibuprofen and Tylenol! I was like.. are you sure? I wanted to hug that pt. And I am not that kind of nurse. At all.
  9. These are just things that you do as part of your annual stuff. Not as part of pre-employment. But, it is part of the nursing orientation process I believe. Hopefully, I can tell you more about that in a few months.
  10. "I would really like to meet the guy that invented the call light. In a dark alley." -unknown.
  11. Keila is right. She I know her she's always right.
  12. Where did you get your scrubs btw?
  13. Hey see you there! I will be in stoke ICU. I think.
  14. Yes you can do that on the PV site I did that for my PN. But I don't know where it is on the site so sorry that won't help. Here's another trick. You can also look at the KBN website and click check application status. If it just says waiting for proof of clinical hours then you're golden pony boy. If it says waiting for results of NCLEX then they just haven't gotten the results yet. But, that usually comes up quick. Hope that helps and good luck to ya. BTW got a job yet?
  15. So I am a new grad that has been a tech in the ER and then LPN in ER for the past 2.5 years. I always thought that I would never leave. But, I have just accepted a position in the stroke ICU at a university hospital. So i guess I have a few questions.. Has anyone else that has made that transition made it work? I know a lot work ICU and ER. Or decide one is for them over the other. Does anyone else work in a Stroke ICU? This one is new to a new hospital so it should be interesting to be a new grad there. What stuff do you recommend me do to prepare? Do you ever get over not liking tracheotomy care? I just realized yesterday I was going to be doing that. I swore in school I wouldn't ever have to do that bc I'd be in ER. I'm so gonna eat those words now. Just hit me with any advise you have. I also swore I would never do one of these "Hi I'm a new grad I need help posts" but I'm doing that too. Thanks -stAx
