Many of us have dealt with similar circumstances in school- struggling to please the un-pleasable. I would recommend going to this professor and asking to reviewing your tests. Finding out exactly what they want from you is half the battle. Sometimes it is more than just the right answer. Do this with an open mind- and a sincere desire to do whatever it takes, or you will sink before you even get in the door. Good luck.

Hi everyone. I go to a terrible school but am too advanced in the program to change. Besides, change is impossible as the school system doesnt recognize credits from other schools.

I have a biggot teacher who is an egomaniac. She is known for flunking people she doesn't like and befriending the locals, and anybody who isn't from there, gets the whip treatment. I always thought it was just a rumour, but since I have gotten there, she's become great friends with some students who are usually mediocre students but suddenly they all got incredible grades whereas mine continue to drop dramatically even under 50% when usually, i am 90% student.

In the final exam of the course, I got a 40% (the LOWEST grade in my life), even though I know I did good. I would like to ask the school to review the grade but I know the teacher is best friends with the head of the dpt, and people who ask to have their grades reviewed never get anything except more trouble.

I have her for my clinical rotation and am intimaded to the max, especially since she gave me such a low grade which I know I didnt deserve.

In the past she's given 25% to people, usually foreigners.

Any Advice?? Also does anyone have any good ideas for recreational activities for psychiatry patients???

Thanks very much[/quote

your post doesn't support your claim of bigotry. perhaps she's grading partially on writing ability as well as spelling and punctuation? if it's a multiple choice or fill-in-the blanks test, i don't see how she could flunk anyone just because she didn't like them. essay tests, of course, have more latitude in grading. spelling and punctuation may well have been considerations.

tried to restrain myself, but ita

i am the one who went from 90 to 40 and im a serious student and this is no urban legend this actually happened to me.Since it was a final test it is one of those mysteries cuz you dont get to review the anserws with the teacher and in my school believe it or not if u actually ask to see the exam you get punished even more which is why i say its a biggot school.I mean you do see sth is wrong here right???? I know my rights and this school doesnt respect it. Theyve already been sued many a time exept i dont have money to do it. its a govt school and i only pay very little money per session so maybe thats why....i dont go to university so its different i guess we have less rights and some people like you say are just plain sharks with a bad life who just like to ruin other peoples lifes.so at least now i know im not the only person to have encountered this kind of situation. And actually the students who are mediocre only get good grades cuz they suck up to her and are manipulative not because they have good technical skills or more knowledge. I know for a fact they made errors administering meds and yet they have never flunked whereas if it wouldve been me they wouldve kicked me out instantly. Anyway im just giving you the facts and asking for your opinion and thanks to all of those who were very supportive, and for the people who dont believe it well theres nothing i can do about that.

I understand, keep your head up and keep working hard, eventually you will be done. I will pray for God to give you clarity about the situation. Sometimes when you come here for help, there are many here ready and willing to be very mean.

i still think spelling, grammar and punctuation may be a factor. not to bust on you, but i don't see any evidence in your post that your school is bigoted. i do see plenty of reason to give a less than passing grade to any writing you do.

:yeahthat: i could not have said it better myself, ruby. :yeahthat:

if we are to be respected more as professionals we need to make an effort to communicate more effectively and accurately via the written and spoken word. this, of course, includes correct grammar, spelling and word usage. it may be that the nursing program you speak of does not accept the mediocrity in communication that is far too common among us. i really cannot say that i see any evidence of that being bigotry.

most state schools have a writing lab or other similar resources to help students. or if knowing the material well enough to navigate tough questions is the problem, consider more study time and/or using study groups. make sure that you are rock-solid before alleging that you were graded or judged unfairly

most of us have encountered at least one instructor along the way that we felt graded a little too subjectively or arbitrarily, or perhaps was infamous for "bad test questions".

bigotry is an ugly allegation that could have all sorts of repercussions if not well founded. are you ready for that?

Ruby, I'm finding myself agreeing with you.

I'm Canadian and have never heard of a school up here charging only $97/session. Trust me on this one. My programme wasn't the greatest, but there was always recourse through the Dean of Nursing and the administration of the school.

I went to school with people who always went back to "biggotry" or "racism" to explain their results. Many times it was a case of cultural differences and how they were used to doing things in their country of origin.

Holy cow. You need to learn the definition of bigotry--fast. Your comments are perilously close to slander.

It's simply impossible to take your claims seriously when your posts are so unclear. Your instructors may be hard on you for very justifiable reasons. If you can't state your case coherently, you have no case at all.

I do not think you are being objective enough in this situation. I see no grounds for biggotry by what you posted and I really don't beleive Americans are out to get Canadians. However I do think that you lack self esteem and are letting this situation rule you. Why don't you or haven't you asked your instructor why you got the grades you did? If you are not going to stand up for yourself how are you going to be any good at being a patient advocate? How are you going to handle the doctors? Nurses eat their young there is no room to be passive..a life may be on the line. Maybe you instructor is trying to teach you more than book knowledge.
