VCU CRNA DNAP 2021

Published

It's insanely early to think about this, but here's a thread for anyone applying for the VCU DNAP cohort set to begin January 2021, the application window is open! Are you studying for your GRE yet? ?

Anyone interested in talking about something else to keep our minds busy for the next few weeks? Haha. What do y’all like to do/work on (you can’t say study) to burn time? I interviewed on the 15th so I’ve been trying to stay busy for a little while to keep my mind at ease, and it’s been nice! The front and back yard and landscaping at our house is perfectly manicured haha.

lemme tell you it has been tough especially with this strict social isolation in CA! I’ve been working out like crazy these past couple weeks to keep my mind off stuff! I also restarted some shows I used to watch on Netflix/Prime which has kept my mind at bay! We’re also training our pup so that’s been another full time job ??I just want this so bad so it’s hard not to think about it! Haha

What about you?! What keeps you busy?!

What an awkward interview, but man glad that is over. Does anyone know how many people typically interview? I saw on their site how many spots they generally give up but wasn't sure on how many give it a go.

Also, given that they have typically done panel interviews in the past and a critical care test that with both in total ends up taking a few hours, am I the only one who thought it was strange they are making their final decisions on these short videos? I was wondering if anyone knew or heard if there is a secondary interview process. The video did not mention that and I haven't seen anything on their FB page or website about it, but it just seemed odd is all.

Glad its over and hope to see all of you in January!

Well.... my wife gave birth to our son on the 12th of March, so that's been keeping me pretty busy :) With that I've had a little bit of time off. My wife and I made a little trip to Asheville, NC at the end of last week and did some hiking with our little guy (good socially distant outdoor activity before anybody jumps my case LOL). I've gotten to do a lot of reading books that have nothing to do with nursing! It's been too long since I've read something entirely for fun. We decked out back porch out with some nice lighting, planted flowers, mulched, all the good Spring time yard work. All that and snugglin with our little dude... time can go as slooooooowwwww as it wants to right now for us haha.

It was definitely different! I'm pretty sure every program is having to adapt to these crazy times, though. I was thankful for how simple the platform was. Very straightforward without the opportunity for many glitches and things like that. I would have loved to meet them all though and hang out on campus... but we can only control what we can control!

As far as the process goes, we are finished. We will find out May 15th whether or not we've been accepted unless they post on their VCU Nurse Anesthesia facebook page. Hope to meet you as well, my friend!

I feel like typically from what I’ve seen 75-100 interview ? Maybe a bit more? Part of me wonders with all of this did they maybe interview more since it was only four questions!

As far as the process I think were done!

I am thankful the interview is done as well. Although I am anxious to find out the decisions it does make waiting somewhat tolerable considering we have a date when everyone is supposed to find out. I interviewed before with VCU although was not accepted. My GRE score wasn’t the best so I’m praying for the best this time around.
Definitely been getting yard work and Spring cleaning done during quarantine time...LOL. Good luck to everyone and hopefully we will all meet in January!

Do you guys think that all decisions (yes and no) will be on May 15? Or do you think they will call the yes' as they have in the past and the no's will be on May 15? Something I have been wondering.

I was wondering the same thing! The way they said it in the video makes me think we will know one way or another “no later than May 15.” It would be amazing to get a call! Still checking my email just about every hour on the hour. Haha

Not quite sure, but from what I’ve seen so far points towards efficiency. I won’t be surprised if we’re notified by next week.

On a different note, any thoughts on working the first year?

They’ve definitely been extremely efficient and transparent about everything. Although the process was new they seemed to streamline things very quickly!

I plan on going PRN for the first couple semesters and picking up more if doable. One of my coworkers is in his third year now and still works PRN; I tell him he must be insane, but to each their own!

That sounds reassuring. I’ve been asked to stick around as the ICU nurse educator and have no idea if this possible if I were to get in.

Agreed. The interview was fairly short, even if you used all 5 minutes for all 4 questions.

I really hope we hear something soon. I’m very anxious to find out. As I’m sure everyone is. I don’t think anyone here would have a problem with finding out sooner than later.

I was going to start the program (provided I get in) and feel out how much time is needed to study efficiently. If there is ample time to work PRN, I probably will. If not, I’ve prepared to be out for the full time.

good luck everyone ?
