VA Hiring Process

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

I had an interview on a Friday and by Wednesday I was offered the job. Ive been told all in all it takes 2-3 months. However, I am a vet so thats probably why my process goes quicker. The ANM on my unit said it took her 8-10 months and she had no previous govt/military experience.

Being a vet makes no difference in speed of hire in my facility. More likely, your HR dept has it together.

I think it does. The one nurse in the interview had no prior military or govt experience and it took her 8-10 months to get in. The other nurse was a military vet and it took him 2 months.

Sorry but it makes no difference. I'm not a vet. My first facility, the hiring process took 2 months going in as a student nurse. When I got an official job, it took 3 months. When I transferred to another facility, it took about 3 months. With this last transfer, I interviewed and found out I had the job about 2 days later. My vetpro alone took 2 1/2 months. Nothing about it changed, I just had to sign it. The entire process has been 6 months. So it is totally based on HR department and vetpro. Has nothing to do with prior military experience when it comes to the VA. So right now, the recruiter is organized where you are. Let's hope when she sends your paperwork to HR that the organization continues.

...still waiting on a reply...any reason why I have not received a single call?

More info or have you already posted?

pfinity, BSN - No news is good news! Just keep waiting. If you don't hear from them it is because they are working on it. Just think of it as similar to waiting in line at the DMV. You may wait for what feels like FOREVER but eventually they will get to you...

I received a final offer letter by email with a start date. But for some reason my usajobs.gov account has not been updated to selected. It still shows as referred as my status. I am wondering what to do since the start date is coming up soon, and I want to give my notice. However, I have heard of the positions being cancelled at the last minute, so I want to play it safe. I wonder why my account has not been updated.

Don't go by that — I have applications in there from 2015! Lol

You should be fine with the offer letter and start date. My usajobs acct was never updated. But you can call the recruiter for reassurance. Congratulations.

Hello everyone, I'm excited to say that I received an tentative offer on Friday. I'm confused about this form they sent me. It says Professional Nurse Reference Form A. I'm assuming this is what they call the 9 dimensions of nursing. I have to think long and hard on what to put on this form .
