VA Hiring Process

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

Thank you LjUN71! Nice! Sounds like you're almost there! They had to push my start date back once. I was supposed to start Oct 16th, but pushed it to Oct 30th because Vetpro didn't have funds to confirm my work history. When they did have funds, the third party company claimed they never sent the requests, but the VA have documentation that they did and they sped up the process once the request was in. So I hope yours goes smoothly, do they have a tentative start date for you?

They told me the same things about funds to verify work history. I have one job left to verify. I don't have a tentative start date yet.

Well I completed my EQIP today, everything else came back...praying to go to the board this week!!!! Pushing for a November start date.

Has anyone heard of doing your ROI before you are offered a tentative position? I interviewed and had my references checked and then was asked to submit my ROI. I was simply told I was one of the top candidates.

Have you physically signed your application documents already, or did you apply online? I have sometimes seen HR request signatures or an ROI immediately before presenting an offer. I was asked to print off and sign my application documents. I had an offer within hours of faxing them. Every VA is different, so it's hard to say.

I applied online. However it was not HR asking me to complete the ROI, it was the unit manager. I assumed it was probably pretty subjective depending on the place. Hopefully they reach out soon as I am getting other offers, but would prefer the position with the VA.

I was just asked to print off and sign my documents. Hopefully I'll have the same luck as you.

Here's a little bit of an update of my recent process. I went to a VA job fair, in August, where I was interviewed, once I passed the interview phase I was sent to get finger printed and then sent to get a physical (all on site) and then filled out mounds of paperwork. All this was done in one day and took place from 7:30 a.m to 3:00 p.m. I was then contacted (a week and a half later) by a recruiter who required more information. I had to submit more paperwork, go in to sign a few other papers about a week after that. In September I was contacted again to complete some more paper work online. Mid September I was asked to go in with a copy of my drivers license. I was given my salary and schedule by my recruiter who then asked me to send in my official transcripts. I was asked to take a urine test at the end of September, we are now in November and I have not heard anything. Fortunately for me I am currently employed and like my job but I do wonder when they will let me know when I will start

Hi all! I am not certain if I am posting to the correct forum, sort of new to all this, but through out my entire VA pre employment process I have been following the threads posted. My experience has been this:

End of June-first of July: applied

August 13 or 14: met qualifications but was not going to be reffered

August 30th: got a call asking for me to interview

September 6: phone interview

September 11: tentative job offer

Between September 14-24: physical, drug screen

End of September: received equip link, submitted within 2 days

First week of October: received vetpro link everything submitted within 3 days

October 24: HR confirmed vetpro had been completed, had to do 8 KSA questions before presented to nursing board

October 26: received email to do privacy class before processing date can be given

October 31: was told board meets every Thursday

Nov. 1: sent HR email requesting status update

Nov. 4: still waiting

My question is how long does it take from the time your info gets to board and is reviewed before final offer is communicated.

Signed,

My guess is that you have the job, but you're waiting on budgeting approval. Hang in there!

Yeah, I would say hang in there too. I'm waiting on the nursing board to review my file hopefully this week for the next start date in December.

You haven't waited very long in VA time. ;) Every VA truly is different, so it's difficult to say how long it will take. In my facility, no one is asked to take the privacy class prior to hire... that would be done during the orientation process. You could be waiting on any number of things unrelated to the board, such a funding, signatures, or some sort of position control paperwork. It seems as though you're moving along in the right direction.
