VA Hiring Process

Published

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

What is a question on the form? Are they asking for you to give examples of when you did xyz?if so, then that is your form and be very descriptive.

@dc2rn2crna that sounds about right. One section is about Quality of Care: Describe how applicant is involved in quality improvement.

Specializes in Cardiology.

That is supposed to be filled out by the individuals who do your letter of recommendation, not by you.

This is normally what that section looks like:

Quality of Care: Participation in unit quality improvement activities-established or self initiated.

Or this: Quality of Care: At the unit level participates in quality improvement activities that result in improved outcomes

It should be directed to you. Did they give you instructions to fill it out and tell you it was the Dimensions of Nursing?

Yes, dc2rn2crna it says: Quality of Care: At the unit level participates in quality improvement activities that result in improved outcomes. She sent some instructions. Getting started is my issue, but I must complete it this week. Wish me luck!!!!!

Just think back to anything you did to help improve the quality of patient care on your unit: example: implemented a rounding schedule with the nurse techs which led to decreased falls and then state how that improved patient outcomes. Just remember to be detailed and put in everything you can think of that will help you look like you are more than just clocking in and clocking out. Sell yourself. í ½í¸

Thank you, I really appreciate it.

I am just wondering about salary. My start date coming soon and I am still not clear about if there is shift differential or not since I am hired for night shift. My contract says non negotiable salary.

Does anyone know how long after the Board of Nursing gets your resume that you get your final offer?

I have been following this thread and it has helped me a lot with the LONG process. I wanted to wait until I finally got my firm job offer before I posted my timeline. I kept track of all of the dates and it does seem like everywhere is about a 3 month process.

7/10/17 - Job closed

7/21/17 - Interviewed

8/22/17 - Tentative offer

8/28/17-8/30/17 - Physical, drug screening, EQIP, fingerprinting, 9 dimensions of nursing, 4 Letter of references, transcripts, and Vetpro all completed and handed in.

9/8/17 - Salary offer and agreement (Verbal)

10/16/17 - Firm offer letter (Via email).

I'm so happy for you VN801!!!!. I did my physical, fingerprinting and UDS yesterday. I'm almost finished with Vetpro, one thing pending. Next E-Qip and then.....Nursing Board. Praying I can get in next month.
