    VA Hiring Process

Just think back to anything you did to help improve the quality of patient care on your unit: example: implemented a rounding schedule with the nurse techs which led to decreased falls and then state how that improved patient outcomes. Just remember to be detailed and put in everything you can think of that will help you look like you are more than just clocking in and clocking out. Sell yourself. í ½í¸

Or this: Quality of Care: At the unit level participates in quality improvement activities that result in improved outcomes It should be directed to you. Did they give you instructions to fill it out and tell you it was the Dimensions of Nursing?

This is normally what that section looks like: Quality of Care: Participation in unit quality improvement activities-established or self initiated.

What is a question on the form? Are they asking for you to give examples of when you did xyz?if so, then that is your form and be very descriptive.

    VA Hiring Process

Sorry but it makes no difference. I'm not a vet. My first facility, the hiring process took 2 months going in as a student nurse. When I got an official job, it took 3 months. When I transferred to another facility, it took about 3 months. With this last transfer, I interviewed and found out I had the job about 2 days later. My vetpro alone took 2 1/2 months. Nothing about it changed, I just had to sign it. The entire process has been 6 months. So it is totally based on HR department and vetpro. Has nothing to do with prior military experience when it comes to the VA. So right now, the recruiter is organized where you are. Let's hope when she sends your paperwork to HR that the organization continues.

Update: just got sent my vetpro today. In order to move forward, I've been contacting people by email asking when will my next step happen. This is the slowest job I've ever had with any VA. Job offer was back in April. Smh

I've done it and haven't done it. The first time I got a VA job, no cover letter. Every time after that I've done a cover letter. I've interviewed for 2 jobs since working in the system that I did not get. Both times I was not qualified for them. The other jobs I've applied to (3 other jobs) with a cover letter, I've gotten. So I don't think it will make or break your chances but it may open the door for you.

    D.O.D or VA

So I've decided to do pre-employment work-up for both jobs then decide when I get an actual final offer what I will do.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I'm familiar with them canceling due to budget. I work a VA now. I just really want to know about these facilities in particular. What is it like working there.

Thanks. I figured that. Maybe I'll pick up a PRN at a local hospital somewhere.

    D.O.D or VA

So I have 2 FT tentative job offers. One with Walter Reed and one with DC VAMC. Med/surg offer for WR and ICU offer for VA. I presently work in the ICU. I know it's hard to get into both of these places and am very grateful to be in this predicament. Does anyone have any experience working at either of these facilities? I'm even hoping to work PRN at one and FT at the other. I will also be new to the area coming from the sweet south. Lol

    VA Hiring Process

Another update: I emailed the nurse recruiter again a few weeks ago. She said my file was complete on her end and everything was sent to HR on April 13th. She stated I should hear from HR for vetpro, fingerprints, etc. So I decided to call on May 4th after I still hadn't heard anything. I called the nursing office and ended up speaking with the admin assistant to the ANE!!! He emailed HR nursing rep and cc me. I then received an email from HR today May 5th with a tentative offer and info saying someone will contact me to do equip. So I'm still moving forward.

    VA Hiring Process

Hey. So I've been reading this thread and thought I'd add my two cents. I'm an internal employee transferring to another VA. My process has been no different than any other person's on here. I applied online. Was called by a nurse executive to set up my interview. Interviewed by the panel on March 24th. Interviewed by the nurse executive March 25th. Heard back from nurse recruiter on March 26th through email with a list of things to send in for the board to review which included 9 dimensions of nursing, transcripts, rec letters, certs, and licenses. Those had to be in by April 7th but I had it back in by April 5th. I sent an update email to the nurse recruiter on April 14th and got a response back today saying my file was sent to HR and had I heard anything from them about updating my vetpro, fingerprints, etc. I know the process takes a while because I've been working at a va for a long while. Exciting process. Can't wait to move to my new city. Good luck to you guys!! Enjoy the VA and try to stay positive in your environment. I love working for the system.
