From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.
For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing
I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.
Thanks in advance ?
Great post!. Ive been with the GOVT for almost 2 years thru IHS (Indian Health Services) Been trying to get back East for about 3-4 months now. I've applied for over 20 positions with the VA, Am I doing something wrong? out of all those applications there were only a few I was not "referred" for, but even the ones I have been referred for I was "not selected' I am not a vet (dad was) and I have no disabilities to claim. Any help is greatly appreciated; thanks in advance-PIN
I received a phone call from my nurse manager with the position offer, which I accepted immediately. Once all my references cleared, and my file was sent to the nursing board, I received a phone call from HR with my ranking (I think that's what it is called) which is Nurse 2 Level 5 along with a verbal salary offer. I accepted the offer immediately and received the offer letter by email the next day. Good luck!
Sure, I was in my specialty for 5 years as an LPN (they give half credit for LPN experience), 3 years as an RN, with 2 years of management experience. I also have my BSN and my specialty certification. I live in FL and they offered a PT schedule at a salary of 72K. To be honest, I am unclear if that salary is based on PT hours or FT, but I can't imagine they would tell me the FT pay rate and offer PT hours. I'm so happy to be here I will just wait until my first paycheck comes to figure it out. I have 12 more months to finish my MSN and should be bumped up to Nurse 3 at that point. Btw, probation lasts TWO YEARS! I appreciate that coming from management viewpoint, but OUCH that seems like forever from the worker bee viewpoint!
Be sure to update us when you hear back from the Board. Good luck!
Thank you @BerryhappyRN for your quick reply! Does anyone know if they just have to verify your references before you go to the Board of Nursing or do they have to verify EVERYTHING in Vetpro before it goes before them? Ive been waiting a month and all my references just finished getting verified on Wednesday.

I would get on the phone asap with the recruiter. Unless you're in a costly city, the salary you noted would likely be full time w/out differentials. Thats usually hiw VA dies it.
Thanks for the advice pfchang. Nights and weekends do receive a 10% and 25% shift diff respectively, payroll trained us on this ad nauseam during orientation. Luckily I am in a position that if the offered salary is based on FT hours, and I only work PT hours, I will be fine. I can always pick up extra shifts if needed. I am so appreciative to be able to work for the VA I am not willing to rock the boat! Thanks for the info!

I have a question. How do we get final offer? Email or letter?
