Hello! I'm posting here to get any feedback from previous UWSoN students or current prenursing students who are applying for the 2019 cohort. A little bit about me is that I'm currently a student at OC in Washington, my prereq GPA for UW's required classes is about a 3.81 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.7. I have been working as a CNA/Medication assistant for almost half a year and will be continuing working until I move to Seattle for school. Any advice is greatly appreciated on housing, how to study for the proctored essay, and any way to better my chances! Thank you!
Hey all- I made a FB group! It's called "UW BSN Class of 2021", or here's the link:
I GOT IN!!! Praise God I actually got in!!
I got my email at work while I was sitting at my computer, I was absolutely NOT expecting it once 3 o'clock had come and gone. I thought it would be Monday for sure....and then.....I still can't believe it. I am shoooooooooook. I mean I know that I slaved away on my application and everything, but I am shoook. I was in tears and the NP I was working with was like " didn't I tell you you'd get in???"
For fellow applicants- first of all, I read somewhere that Carolyn chow once said that literally anyone can get in, they just need to tailor their app the right way, and the admissions committee reviewer who vouches for your app, they need to be able to justify their support of you.The#1 thing I kept in mind when doing my app was imagining how my choices would read from a stranger's eyes. It's not easy to do for sure
And the other thing is, you definitely do NOT need to have years and years or hundreds upon hundreds of hours on experience. I literally decided this time *last year* that I wanted to be a nurse. Id worked as an MA( part time) for only 5 months when I gave in my app and I just had a couple of volunteer positions in 1 hospital, that constitutes all my healthcare experience. True I have a couple of unique things about me like being trilingual, but that's not something expected. So, don't feel like three hundred hours is not as good as eight hundred, or anything like that!

orange_T, in regards to improving your application- I was denied last year, not invited to the proctored at all. Over the past year, I finished all my pre-reqs, starting working as a CNA, got more volunteer hours and at different locations, and wrote a pretty good essay (in my opinion, haha). I had a coworker who got into the program a couple years ago give me tips on the essay and help me edit it. Comparing my essay this year to last year, I think that was a big reason I was admitted. I also got a much better letter of rec compared to the year prior (my recommender knew me much better). Don't give up, and best of luck if you decide to apply next year!
