UW Transfer BSN 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! I'm posting here to get any feedback from previous UWSoN students or current prenursing students who are applying for the 2019 cohort. A little bit about me is that I'm currently a student at OC in Washington, my prereq GPA for UW's required classes is about a 3.81 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.7. I have been working as a CNA/Medication assistant for almost half a year and will be continuing working until I move to Seattle for school. Any advice is greatly appreciated on housing, how to study for the proctored essay, and any way to better my chances! Thank you!

Hi All!

Congrats to everyone who got in!!

Is anyone having a hard time deciding between UW and SU? I would like to hear your thoughts!

@Sunnyhere I have been for sure! I have several friends and coworkers who were in both programs and they have all said good things about their respective schools. I really like that SU has their simulation lab at the cherry hill swedish campus as I work for Swedish already and it could possibly give me a better in when I'm ready to start my residency. On the UW side they are a Worldwide top 10 school! For me it really has come down to the financial aspect. UW is far cheaper by nearly half the cost of SU and as a post-bacc transfer student I don't qualify for the incredible merit scholarships and assistance that some of the other students will be getting. Has I not gotten into UW I would have done whatever I needed to make it work financially but since I did I plan to go for UW!

@ackermc3 I would assume UW general admission will let you know by May/June just like all other applicants, regardless of whether you were waitlisted for the SoN, and I don’t believe that your acceptance to the program will help/hinder that!

@sm38 Thank you for replying. I am aware of UW’s general admission decision date. I guess I’m more concerned of the waitlist not moving up before that date and should I get a spot in the BSN program, which will assist me getting into UW general, as previous comments said, very rarely do applicants get denied from UW general once admitted into the SoN. Hope that makes sense. Thank you again!

For those who are worried about their general UW app not being accepted after their offer of admission from the SoN, I heard the same thing as berserk. It's extremely unlikely to be accepted by the SoN and not UW, according to a friend I have in the program. She told me to feel free to decline my other schools and not to worry. ?

Sunnyhere, I was also admitted to SU and was lucky enough to receive a fairly robust financial aid package that brings my cost per year down to about $17k, so not too much higher than UW. I personally am choosing UW to save the extra money as well as loving the reputation that UW has as a school. I have great coworkers who've graduated from both schools and are currently attending both, but those I want to emulate as a nurse myself have come from UW. As a first generation college student, it's also a great personal achievement for myself to say I got into/am attending such a prestigious school.

A very personal decision either way, good luck!

I’m unsure of what to think about the curriculum change, especially because we are the first cohort going through it. I saw that they are trying a flipped classroom style, Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I had the flipped classroom style for my micro class, and it definitely has its pros and cons. I liked being able to teach myself at my own pace, listening to lectures at home. But in my micro class, we were put into “seminar” groups to do classwork, and you didn’t get to choose your group, so sometimes there weren’t always the best people in your group (as I’m sure we’ve all experienced)!

I’m also not sure of what to think about the curriculum change. My coworkers currently in the program think it’ll be nice to do community health in our first year instead of senior year because you typically don’t use as many nursing skills. I’m not excited about the peds rotation being pushed back because it effects me becoming a nurse tech at my current job, but we'll just have to see I suppose. ?

For those who sent in your acceptance form did you receive any confirmation back that they received it?

Not yet, but I sent mine over the weekend so I expect there will be some processing time today, to get responses back to people.

Is there anyone else that hasn’t heard back yet?? I haven’t received any type of email yet ? my manager said I probably shouldn’t bother them Just yet but I’m just so eager!!

Are all 80 spots taken? ? so sad they forgot about me!!

Lorena, go ahead and bother them!! Just Google UW school of nursing and call the number that pops up. They usually answer right away. You have every right to find out what happened to your app!

Okay your right! I just sent them an email since I’m at work. Ohhh gosh!

When do you guys have to submit your acceptance form by? Just trying to get an idea as to when I should start calling for updates on the waitlist.

Thank you!
