Hey Guys!
I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!
I too just got a reply that interviews will most likely not take place until September...looks like I will be having to start a fall ADN program after all! Its gonna be about a grand out of pocket for me if I get into UTMB and quit my ADN program but I think it will be worth it in the long haul.
YES! Yes it is....I have only been emailing one person and last week it was that interview invites are going out soon, but when I asked her again today about when the interviews would happen, she told me about them being in september so that faculty will be back from summer vacation. Its so frustrating that they all tell us something different!
Maybe we will get invites soon, but the actual interviews wont happen till Sept..... I am hoping anyways.

Only a grand? If you can get by for under a grand that would be unreal. I assume you'd have to pay tuition for the ADN and buy books, both of which may be nonrefundable expenses after the program starts. I know that one semester for me at community college for 13 hrs is approaching $2500, not including books. It seems to me like it would be a dream to only take a $1000 hit in transfering back to UTMB if you've already started another program. Although, like our other hopeful stated, if you're solely focused on the BSN, it can save huge amounts of time and money overall if you do end up transfering back to UTMB and taking the hit.
I also invested quite a bit of time and money in applying to 4 different BSN programs, but that's just the name of the game. It's amazing how many extra classes and entrance exams you need to take in order to apply to several schools all in Texas. You'd think they'd all kinda want you to have the same knowledge coming in... It can also be a good thing because it keeps the number of applications down. If everybody had the qualifications and prereqs to apply to every nursing school, they'd apply everywhere and we'd all be competing against 1500 rather than only 800.

I've gotten extremely frustrated in the past about the different requirements that every program seems to have, but this is a good point. Now that I've completed all the different classes and have taken both the HESI with CT and the TEAS V, I can at least take some solace in your thought that the different requirements probably keeps total applications down.
Edit: Heavy, you're applying to TWU... Do they have a BSN program that's shorter than four years? Or are you planning on transferring credits?

I applied to their traditional BSN program. In this case, it's an additional 4 semesters after you've completed your prereqs. I decided the best thing to do was to get my AA with the prereqs then transfer everything over at once.

Where on earth are you going that costs $2500 for 13 hours? COM will end up being pretty cheap for my first semster...only $604 for my 10 hours of tuition, $70 for a skills kit, and then of course books cost....If I get into UTMB I will finish out the fall semester at COM since I will have already paid for it all then just have a 1 up on everyone else when school starts in Jan! Any books that I can't take with me to UTMB will be sold online or to another incoming COM nursing student, so I should be able to recoup a lot of expense there. I will also be out about $60 for two sets of clinical scrubs, but my shoes, stethoscope, and lab coat can transfer with me.
I definitely want my BSN so going straight for it will be a huge time saver....shaving about 8-12 months off the total time! not to mention getting my BSN in less time than a ADN....just makes sense!
As far as asking them to push back my acceptance Mag28...it is a good idea, but I am determined to start SOMETHING asap! SO I have decided to go this route.
I applied to 3 different schools and ALL of them had a different entrance test and different ways of scoring a student to be considered. It was hard to keep everything straight for the different schools, and got costly, esp since one schol required drug screening AND the background check done prior to applying!!! But I agree that they do this for a reason....

HCC. That's actually for 16 hrs though. Tuition just went up over the summer, plus I live out of district. Even though there are campuses in Katy, once you cross Fry road (aka leave Houston and enter Katy) you're paying out-of-district tuition. It's pretty close to the cost for out-of-state.
Sounds like you have a good plan.

My friend emailed someone from SON today and she got a reply stating that interview invites will start in early September, once the staff comes back from summer vacations.
