UTHSCSA - UT Health Science Center San Antonio - Spring 09

Published

Sorry I didn't want this post to get mixed up with the other thread haha it's so long.

Anyways wondering if anyone else applied for the Spring 09. Im also wondering if its worth buying the study guide for the TEAS that they are selling and what kind of questions they ask you in the interview.

I'm so nervous because mine is coming up!

-Thanks Duc

I believe that if you are in the generic BSN program you are allowed to work part time. Most of the accelerated programs suggest not working. Although, I don't know how that can possibly stop you.

i guess they cannot stop you. they probably just strongly recommend that you do not work.

Thanks!! I've been trying to decide what to do about work and then I checked my mail today and got offered a spot in the Accelerated program!!!:D I guess some spots must have opened up..

So, I guess that made my decision for me...I will definitely not be working!

I can't wait to start! I hope we get some more info. in the mail soon...

AHH MAN! I just called them to find out how that worked if a spot opened! CONGRATULATIONS! Maybe there will be another. Do the generic and accelerated students still have classes together?

Congrats lily! If I'm not mistaken, we'll be taking the same classes this first semester as the generic pathway students so all of us off here will be together. It's nice that we already sort of know each other. Will make it easier/faster if we want to form a big allnurses study group :)

congrats, lily. :balloons:

rfs, i wouldn't give up hope now. utmb and twu still have not sent decisions letters yet so maybe someone who is currently holding an accelerated spot will give it up when they hear from other schools. maybe you will get an offer at the last minute, but let's hope you hear sooner than that. :icon_hug:

before i took my test, someone talked to accelerated candidates on how acceptance into the accelerated worked. they said that they take everyone with a bachelor's, rank them, top 20 go into accelerated, the rest are the waiting list. so lily, maybe you were number 20-something so you did not have to wait long.

For those of you trying to find an apartment in the medical center area, you can go to www.forrent.com and search by zip code and type 78229. This is the school's zip code, so it will give you the apartments in the area. You can also go to http://www.apartments.com/Texas/SouthCentralTexas/SanAntonio&Vicinity and select option 6 which says "Northwest/Medical Center" and it will give you apartments in that area as well. If you want an apartment within walking distance, try San Antonio Station Apartment or The Vintage (but Vintage is expensive...a 1 bedroom will run at least a $1000). UTHSCSA has a shuttle bus that stops off in a parking lot across from "Broadstone on Medical Apartments" and "Medical Center Apartments". If you are willing to take the shuttle to and from school, then that could be a good option too. You could even walk from there although it may take a while. If you plan on driving, some apartments that are a very short drive from the school include Signature Ridge, The Stratford, and Promontory Pointe. There are more, but I can't think of the names. Anyways, just try those links so you can be ready when you do come down here to view the apartments.

Nice! Ive been given options on apartments but seeing pictures online isnt the same as seeing the place face to face. I was thinking about only taking a 6 month lease just in case the place sucked so it would give me a way out or even find a nice roommate to live with to lessen the expenses as im in school and make friends. (so if anyone needs a roomie! haha)

Thats pretty neat how we all share the first semester in the same classes. (Hope to see you girls/guys i'll be the asian guy not knowing what he is doing :-P) I guess its the summer that will seperate our accelerated path as it puts what 15 hours ahead?

The scholarship thing, most of the others have deadlines that passed *sigh* to late now and some only offer the scholarship/loan reimbursement if work for them for about 2 yrs (I would like this plan if I didn't want to go the cRNA route).

My friend is a PT student and said the school is building a gym on campus but in the meantime we get gym memberships to a local gym (correct me if i'm wrong) which is pretty nice b/c I sort of run to get my mind off things!

Ahh so much rambling i'll end it here..

I am very overweight so a free or discounted gym membership would rock.

Hey AZNPLR99(Asian playa 99), nice to see there is another guy in the club for 08. I'll be the tall white dude not knowing what is going on too...:chuckle

As for the others wanting Accelerated, I did give up my spot in the accelerated so maybe there will be another opening...I'm going the 2yr route and working ptime.

All this time I thought Aznplr99 = Arizona player 99 :chuckle

Haha sorry its just a habit of having my first screen name i made when i first got internet in 1999. I get so much guff about it from people but its so easy to remember and I hate making new accounts with different names when I have everything under this one name.

Lancer! Im guessing you drive a Lancer haha we can be buddies and aimlessly walk around asking for others help hahah! Or maybe we'll be smart and people would look to us for help! :-D
