Sorry I didn't want this post to get mixed up with the other thread haha it's so long.
Anyways wondering if anyone else applied for the Spring 09. Im also wondering if its worth buying the study guide for the TEAS that they are selling and what kind of questions they ask you in the interview.
I'm so nervous because mine is coming up!
-Thanks Duc
Congrats on getting into the accelerated AznPlay! It seems like everyone who wanted accelerated got into it, except for me. I wonder if they ended up letting more than 20 in the accelerated. I should not be upset about it but I know when all of yall are finished 6 months before me, I am gonna be bummed out.
Hey rfs, I would have liked to get into the accelerated program too! Don't stress about it. It would definitely be nice to graduate 6 months earlier, but during that 2nd summer you can try to get a student nurse externship at a hospital you're interested in. Most hospitals take into consideration the fact that you've already worked there when you're trying to get a job. So there are up-sides to everything. Yeah, I'd probably rather just graduate and start working, but...I haven't had a summer off since I started college, which was in 2002. So, yeah, I'm looking forward to just working and no school, although if I got into the accelerated, I don't think I'd turn it down.
Seems like this thread died since we all got in haha no more frantic no mail posts :-P
Anyways I have a few questions yet to be answered... and curious on another level...
Anyone know of any apartments near med center that are fully furnished? (around 500 a month?) Hell i'd even share a 2 bedroom with a roomie if possible just to lessen rent...
Anything we should brush up on? Get anybooks that would help us with this onslaught of information when we get into school :-D (sorry im such a nerd haha :-P)
I'm not familiar with any of the apartments in the area. We only stayed in one complex before buying our house and it was pretty far from the med center. People have mentioned all the sirens that you'll have to deal with if you live very close. That's true. There are going to be a lot of sirens and then the helicopter for air life.
Since we're just throwing out info, I thought I'd let y'all know that when you park at the health sci center, your car has to be pointed into the parking space (so that your car is nose to nose with the car in front of it). In other words, don't pull through your parking space, and then through the one in front of it so that your car is pointing out. When I worked there I saw so many people getting tickets for this. I know for a lot of us that money is going to be tight and shelling out money for a ticket is the last thing we'll want to do.
I haven't heard anything as far as books as stuff. Our scrubs for clinicals are going to be white though. I was hoping they would be a dark color.
well, I live in the med center and to be honest I have only heard one siren my 8 months of being here. I think you don't have to worry about sirens unless u plan on living directly across from the school. Scrubs are all white, shoes really don't have to be all white, if their is a logo in another color. You can wear whatever color scrubs u want for skills labs, so don't waste all ur money on white scrubs like I did in the beginning.
Mon,
So how many white scrubs would you recommend? For some reason i was thinking of buying like 4-5 pairs and how many colored ones should we get..
Also i figured the shoes needed to be all white but the logo can be any color? so nike shox with all white and a black logo should be fine? What about crocs are those allowed?
We all have so many questions! Anyone else ready to get more info in the mail so we can start preparing?
And on the subject of apartments, my sister lived in the med center and had helicopters flying overhead regularly. It didn't really bother her, but that depends on the person. She lived on Medical Dr., so something on the perimeter might be better if you think the helicopters and such would wake you up at night.
well, I think two should be fine, u only have to wear it to clinical once a week. U have skills labs on mondays and fridays so I think buy more colored scrubs, well thats what I did cause 2nd and 3rd semester u can wear other colors for ur psych, ob rotations, etc..U have to buy a special kind of shirt, I went to the uniform store on medical dr., forgot the name of it. The shirt has to have a collar and its button down, I really hate it, but oh well...anymore questions feel free to ask..

I got into the accelerated program under the condition that i complete microbiology which im currently have a A in :-D..
The only thing that concerns me is that the last shot on my hep B series is going to be Jan 3rd and I also require a tither to be drawn... Its cutting it super close and im hoping that they will still allow me in >.
Hmm now to do the CPR class and find some insurance (what kind do they require).
Also the reply about housing near the school. I have a friend that is in PT school and literally lives 1 mile from school on Floyd Curl Dr and I stayed at his apt for the interview and there was no noise when i slept there... I would move there but i sort of want a furnished apt anyone know any nice ones?
