UTHSCSA - UT Health Science Center San Antonio - Spring 09

Published

Sorry I didn't want this post to get mixed up with the other thread haha it's so long.

Anyways wondering if anyone else applied for the Spring 09. Im also wondering if its worth buying the study guide for the TEAS that they are selling and what kind of questions they ask you in the interview.

I'm so nervous because mine is coming up!

-Thanks Duc

Thanks moncj for being so helpful. :)

Hey moncJ66

what is the special kind of shirt for? Is it to go with our white or colored scrubs?

NO problem, I wish more upper level folks helped me out in the beginning.

rfs2886- the white shirt goes with your white uniform. You wear regular scrub type pants, but the shirt is not scrub type. Its a collared shirt thats button down and you have to sew a patch on the arm. Ist hard to describe, its better if u actually see it. Colored scrubs for labs are whatever you want.

Hey guys! Congrats on your acceptance! I'm in my first semester and just wanted to offer a word of advice: pretty soon here, you will be receiving a letter asking if you would like to take NURS 3209 as an in-class lecture or as an online class. Take the in-class lecture!! I'm so glad I did! All the people that I've talked to that are taking the online class wish they had taken the in-class lecture instead. There are lots of reasons why! Just thought I'd put in my :twocents:

:D:up:

Thanks pixie! I will definitely take your advise given that I am so sick of online classes! This semester I am taking 12 hours online! Ugh. I need a break!

Out of curiosity, what are some of the reason?

I'll send you a message

Thanks for the advice pixie! I probably would have just b/c learning in person has always been better for me anyway..

Ive done some research and it looks like Grey's Anatomy scrubs all the way! How much did books and things run you girls/guys first semester of school?

I shopped early and bought all the books I possibly could online and spent a total of $850. Most people I know didn't want to deal with buying online and waiting for shipping so they bought everything at the school bookstore and spent around $1200! It's definitely worth it to try to buy online. Grey's anatomy scrubs are definitely super comfortable but they're kind of pricey. If you're lucky and don't have to worry too much about cost, then definitely buy them. They even look nicer. If you're looking for a deal, go to a place called Medix Discount Uniforms (it's really close to the school) and they have excellent prices on scrubs. They don't carry Grey's Anatomy, though. Right across from school is a place called "Life Uniform" and they carry Grey's Anatomy scrubs there. A few buildings down is a place called "Sunshine Uniforms" and they also sell Grey's Anatomy scrubs and that is where you will find your nursing uniforms for clinicals (the collared top and all that great stuff).

Whoa books thats crazy not even in college did i pay that much for brand new books... I guess medical books are $$$ haha

About the nursing scholarship application. Is that just one for the school or is one we fill out and they apply it to every scholarship they can find?

Speaking of the scholarship form...What do we put for the gpa? I was thinking of leaving it blank since we aren't IN the program yet but I wasn't sure if maybe we were supposed to put our gpa for our prereqs or something. Anyone asked them about this yet?

Well i called the school but forgot to ask about the GPA question. I figured it was the GPA that they calculated for you... correct me if i'm wrong >.

Also the scholarship is just for the one offered by the school.. I was hoping it would apply us to a variety of scholarships :-(

Ok finding a apartment online is $@#$@ ugh I guess i need to just go and look.

I agree!! Looking for apartments is not fun when you don't know the area!

So, I'm wondering...Does anyone know if most people in the Generic BSN program work as well?? Or is anyone planning to find a job?

I'm trying to decide what to do...live off loans/grants or try to work part-time while in school?
