UTHSCSA - UT Health Science Center San Antonio - Spring 09

Published

Sorry I didn't want this post to get mixed up with the other thread haha it's so long.

Anyways wondering if anyone else applied for the Spring 09. Im also wondering if its worth buying the study guide for the TEAS that they are selling and what kind of questions they ask you in the interview.

I'm so nervous because mine is coming up!

-Thanks Duc

I looked up the Clincal Instructors on the Ereserve..

I have Frank Laureano Tuesday clinicals from 6:30-2:30pm (i think since its 14:30 haha) and I guess the extra hour after that is just to talk to him about our clincal that day?

How about everyone else?

Same here (Laureano) but for Wednesday. Looks like the first 2 weeks we are there until 6PM!!

Did anyone check there Skills Lab times?? I wonder if its possible to switch a time slot to an earlier time??

Nuts I should be asleep haha

Im on the Monday Skill lab from 10-12pm.. I like finishing early and having the rest of the day otherwise I would just waste all of my day sleeping haha

And I think you can switch clinical/skill labs I think i didnt quite here what the Peer advisers said since there was alot of talking during lunch. I guess tomorrow is the time to ask!

hey guys! congratulations on getting into the nursing program @ UTHSCSA! i am a second semester nursing student, so maybe i can help with some of the questions. first, ALL those orientation days are such a waste of time. they could do and say all that stuff in ONE day....so just hang in there as it will soon be over. switching clinical and/or skills lab times is not as easy as the peer advisors make it out to be. you have to have a really, really valid reason for wanting to switch AND you have to have already found someone (on ur own) willing to switch with you!

you need to buy the small nursing diagnosis handbook.....you will be taking this book to the hospital and believe me, you will prefer the smaller version. idk y the bookstore only offers the gigantic one?!? u dont have to buy the dvd's if ur strapped 4 cash! the CRC downstairs by the computer lab has them and you can check them out to watch....

yes, the uniform is completely WHITE! you only need to buy one since you only have clinicals once a week. i would buy 2 scrub sets since you have skills lab twice a week and probably will not have time to wash clothes til the weekend! if you have not started reading---START NOW!

what else??? hhmm....if you got laureano for clinicals, thats a good thing! he knows his stuff and you will learn A LOT. he lets you have a great deal of autonomy in the hospital. however, yes, ur clinical orientation w him will last ALL day! get to know ur clinical professor and make a GREAT impression....they decide whether u pass/fail the clinical setting and a failure in clinical is all is takes to get booted from the program!!!!

whew! you have made it this far, so you are going to do great! hang in there...rremember, one day at a time!

questions? ask and i will try to check this later.....GOOD LUCK!! :D
